Okay, so I got it in my head to finally sort out my old sports cards. You know, the ones gathering dust in the attic? I figured I’d start with baseball, and the first name that popped into my mind was Dale Murphy. I was a huge Braves fan back in the day, and Murph was the man.

The Digging Begins
First things first, I had to find the darn boxes. It was a bit of an archaeological dig up there, I’m not gonna lie. After moving around a bunch of Christmas decorations and old photo albums, I finally spotted them – three beat-up cardboard boxes marked “Sports Cards.” Bingo!
Card Chaos
I hauled the boxes downstairs and dumped the contents onto the living room floor. Cards, cards, everywhere! It was a chaotic mess of Topps, Donruss, Fleer… total overload. I started by separating the baseball cards from the football and basketball (which was a whole other project for another day).
The Murphy Mission
Now, the real hunt began. I started sifting through the baseball cards, looking for that iconic Dale Murphy swing. I remembered having a few of his rookies, and maybe even some autographed ones I’d gotten at a card show years ago.
- Flipping through stacks of cards, my eyes scanned for that familiar Braves uniform.
- I found a bunch of common cards – players I barely remembered.
- Then, there it was! A 1977 Topps Dale Murphy rookie card! It wasn’t in mint condition, but it was still a thrill to find it.
More Than I Bargained For
I kept digging, and I was surprised by how many Murphy cards I actually had. I found a few more rookies, some All-Star cards, and even a couple of those oddball cards from the ’80s with funky designs. I even uncovered that autographed card I’d completely forgotten about! It was a 1983 Donruss, signed in blue Sharpie. Score!
Organizing the Loot
Once I’d gathered all the Murphy cards, I needed to get them organized. I grabbed some plastic sleeves and a binder specifically for card collecting. I carefully placed each card in a sleeve and then into the binder. It felt good to finally give these cards the respect they deserved.

Feeling nostalgic!
It was a fun trip down memory lane. I got to find those awesome cards that I had been longing for. I carefully protected each one so I can share them with my kids one day.
