So, I was just messing around the other day, trying to figure out something about basketball. Suddenly, I bumped into this dude named “Birdman.” I was like, “Who’s this guy?” Turns out, he’s this basketball player, Chris Andersen. But get this, the guy was banned from the NBA! I mean, what did he do?
I started digging around, trying to piece it all together. This was way back in 2006, January 30th to be exact. Apparently, this Birdman had a weird way of getting into pro ball. And the fans, especially in Oklahoma City, they loved him! He was known for those crazy, high-flying dunks.
What got him in trouble?
- Drugs – Not just weed, but the hard stuff. Amphetamines, cocaine, opiates, PCP, LSD – the whole shebang. That’s a big no-no in the NBA.
I did a little more research on his playstyle, just to see what kind of player he was before all this mess.
- Dude brought the energy. People said he got the team and the crowd pumped up.
- He was a beast on the boards, grabbing rebounds like it was nobody’s business – about 5.4 per game.
- And he could block shots, too.
- Also, I found some other rules. For example, “A player shall not kick the ball or strike it with the fist. Kicking the ball or striking it with any part of the leg is a violation when it is an intentional act.” But, I can’t find why he was banned because this rule.
Conclusion
So, there you have it. I went from knowing nothing about Birdman to getting the whole scoop. He was a fan favorite, high-energy player, but those “drugs of abuse” messed it all up for him. It’s crazy how one bad decision can change everything. That’s my little adventure from the other day, thought I’d share it with y’all!
