Carlos Colón Jr.: The Rise of Carlito in WWE
Well now, I reckon y’all mighta heard of a feller named Carlos Colón Jr. Some folks call him Carlito in the wrestling world, and he ain’t just any ol’ wrestler, no sir. He’s got wrestling in his blood, being part of that Colón family that’s been around in Puerto Rico for ages. His daddy, Carlos Colón Sr., was one of the biggest names in wrestling over there, so Carlito sure had big shoes to fill when he decided to step into the ring.
Born on February 21, 1979, in the beautiful Puerto Rico, Carlito’s real name is Carlos Edwin Colón Coates Jr. Don’t let the fancy name fool ya, though, he’s just a wrestler who’s made a name for himself all around the world, from the local rings in Puerto Rico to the grand stages of WWE. Now, you might wonder how he got his start, and I’ll tell ya, it was no easy road. He didn’t just get handed everything because of his family name. Carlito had to prove himself, just like any other wrestler out there.
When he was younger, Carlito worked hard to make a name for himself in the World Wrestling Council (WWC), a big wrestling promotion in Puerto Rico that his family had a hand in building. He sure made a name for himself in the ring, getting folks talking about his moves and his cocky attitude. But as he got older, he started lookin’ to bigger places, and that’s when he joined the WWE, a real big deal for any wrestler.
Now, y’all might be wondering what made Carlito stand out. Well, let me tell ya, it wasn’t just his wrestling skills. This boy’s got style, y’know? He’d strut around the ring, all confident, and show off that arrogant grin of his, making fans love him or hate him. That signature move of his, the “Backstabber,” was one folks remembered for sure. And you know, he didn’t just wrestle on the main roster; he also made appearances at big events like the Royal Rumble, where folks got a chance to see him in action with some of the best in the business.
But, as much as Carlito had things going for him in WWE, he didn’t always play by the rules. See, in 2010, he got into some trouble with the WWE’s Wellness Program. He failed a test, and things got rocky for him after that. He refused to go into rehab, and well, that was the end of his time with WWE for a while. It was a big ol’ mess, and folks couldn’t help but wonder what could’ve been if Carlito had kept his head on straight. I mean, the guy had talent, but sometimes your own decisions can cost ya more than you think.
After that, Carlito went off and did his own thing for a bit, wrestling in other promotions and making some appearances here and there. He even went back to Puerto Rico and showed folks he still had it. But in 2021, he surprised everyone by showing up at the Royal Rumble, a big ol’ WWE event. Folks cheered, and some even wondered if he was back for good. But as it goes in this business, things ain’t always as they seem.
Now, Carlito’s back in WWE, and this time he’s part of a group called The Judgment Day. This group’s made up of some of the toughest folks in the business, including Damian Priest, Finn Bálor, and Rhea Ripley. But you know, Carlito’s got some history with Damian Priest, and that might just cause some problems for him down the road. Ain’t no telling what’s gonna happen when all these big personalities clash in the ring.
But even with all the ups and downs, Carlito’s still here, making his mark in the wrestling world. Some folks may have forgotten about him over the years, but he’s proved he’s not just another flash-in-the-pan wrestler. His journey’s been a long one, with plenty of twists and turns, but he’s still going strong. And whether you love him or hate him, you can’t deny that Carlito’s one of the most memorable figures in WWE history.
So, as he continues his run with The Judgment Day, we’ll all be watchin’ to see what happens next. One thing’s for sure, though—Carlito’s got a legacy to live up to, and he ain’t about to let it slip away anytime soon. He’s come a long way from those early days in Puerto Rico, and the sky’s the limit for this guy, even if he still thinks he’s better than everyone else in the room.
