Alright, so folks ask me how I figure out my homerun picks for the day. It’s not some magic formula, just my own little routine I’ve settled into. Thought I’d walk you through how I spent my morning doing just that.

First thing I did was grab my coffee and pull up today’s baseball schedule. Just gotta see who’s playing, you know? I glanced through the matchups, looking for games that kinda jumped out. Maybe a team with heavy hitters going against a pitcher who gives up a lot of long balls, or maybe a game happening in a park where the ball really flies.
Digging into the Details
Once I had a few games circled, I started diving deeper. This is where the real work begins, I guess. I started looking at specific players.
What I focused on:
- Recent Performance: Is the guy hot? Has he hit homers in the last week or two? Sometimes you catch a guy on a heater.
- Matchup History: How has this hitter done against today’s starting pitcher in the past? Some guys just own certain pitchers. It’s weird, but it happens.
- Ballpark Factors: Like I mentioned, where’s the game? Some parks are launching pads, others are pitcher-friendly. Wind direction matters too sometimes.
- Lefty/Righty Splits: Does the hitter mash lefties? Or crush right-handed pitching? Gotta check who’s on the mound.
I basically started making a messy list on a notepad. Had maybe six or seven names that looked promising based on this stuff. It’s never clean, just jotting down thoughts next to names.
Making the Cuts
Okay, so having a long list isn’t helpful. Now I had to narrow it down. This part can be tricky. Sometimes two players look equally good on paper. I went back and forth a bit. Re-checked some stats. Looked at their spot in the batting order – usually prefer guys hitting higher up, more chances.

I also did a quick check for any late-breaking news. Any key players getting a surprise day off? Did the lineups come out yet? Gotta make sure my potential pick is actually starting! Also, a last-minute weather check – is rain going to mess things up, or is the wind suddenly blowing straight in?
Finally, I settled on a couple of guys. Felt pretty decent about them based on the homework. Usually, I pick one or two I feel strongest about, and maybe one gut feeling pick, you know, a bit of a longshot that might pay off big.
Wrapping Up the Process
And that’s basically it. That was my process today. Took a little while, involved checking a few different things, and finally landing on my picks for today’s games. It’s just my way of doing it, sorting through the info to find batters I think have a good shot at going deep. No guarantees, obviously, it’s baseball! But that’s the routine I follow.
