Hey guys, so, I was just chilling, you know, doing my usual thing, and then this name popped up – Marcus Semien. Yeah, I’d heard the name before. A baseball guy, right? But suddenly I got curious about his folks. Who were they? Where did he come from?
So, like any normal person, I dove into the internet. Started clicking around, reading this and that. Turns out, this Semien guy is pretty solid, currently playing for the Texas Rangers. But here’s the kicker – he’s a true Bay Area dude. Grew up in El Cerrito, went to St. Mary’s College High School. He’s a local product, which I thought was pretty cool.
Then I dug a bit deeper, cause why not, right? You start with one thing and then you’re down a rabbit hole. It was like a puzzle, and I wanted to see the whole picture. I’m that kind of person. I like to know the story behind the story, you feel me?
And guess what I found out about parents? Not much. Well, that’s not true. I found a lot about another athlete, Tarah Murrey, she has a dad named Douglas, who used to play basketball for San Jose State and even got drafted by the Golden State Warriors back in ’81. Her mom, Barbara, played volleyball at the same place. But it seems like that’s a different story, not my guy Marcus’.
What I did find out about Marcus’ family, was that he’s got a wife and four kids – three boys and a girl. Family man, I like that. It adds another layer to the guy, you know? He’s not just a baseball player, he’s a dad, a husband.

The stats they throw around – outs above average and all that – I’m not gonna pretend I fully understand them, but it’s clear the guy is one of the best defensive players in the game.
So yeah, that’s my little journey into the world of Marcus Semien. Started with a simple question about his parents and ended up learning a whole lot more about the guy. It’s funny how these things go, right? You never know what you’ll find when you start digging. Just goes to show, there’s always more to a person than meets the eye.
