Alright, let’s talk about this whole “free fights” thing. It’s funny how stuff just kicks off sometimes, completely out of the blue. You’re just minding your own business, and bam, things get wild.

The Day at the Supermarket
I remember this one time, wasn’t even that long ago. I was just trying to get some groceries, you know, the usual weekend chore. Went to that big supermarket down the road. It was packed, like always on a Saturday morning. I grabbed my cart and started making my way through the aisles.
So, I get to the checkout lanes. They’re all long, naturally. I pick one that looks like it’s moving okay and settle in. People are doing their thing, loading up their stuff, paying. Pretty standard stuff.
Then, up near the front, maybe two people ahead of me, this argument starts. Seriously, over nothing. I think it was about someone cutting in line? Or maybe someone bumped someone else’s cart? It wasn’t clear, but suddenly voices got loud. Real loud.
I saw this one guy, middle-aged dude, getting red in the face. He was pointing his finger at this younger fella. The younger guy wasn’t backing down either. They started shouting back and forth. Forget about checking out groceries, everyone just kinda stopped and watched. You know how it is.
It went from zero to sixty in like, ten seconds. No warning. Just pure, unadulterated yelling. I thought for sure punches were gonna get thrown. The cashier looked terrified, just frozen there.

I didn’t do anything, what could I do? Just stood there with my cart full of stuff, watching this whole drama unfold. Felt awkward, honestly. Like watching a really bad play you didn’t buy tickets for.
Eventually, one of the store managers came rushing over. Big guy. He managed to get between them, calm things down a bit. Told them both to leave or he’d call security, or the cops, I don’t know. The two guys were still grumbling but they separated. One stormed off without his groceries, the other finished paying looking really ticked off.
The whole line was just silent after that. Everyone kinda looked at each other, shook their heads, and went back to their business. But the mood was totally different. Tense.
It really stuck with me, that whole scene. How quickly things can escalate over absolutely nothing. A real “free fight” – nobody planned it, nobody wanted it (well, maybe those two guys did in the moment), it just erupted. Makes you realise how thin the veneer of calm really is sometimes. You just never know when you’ll get a front-row seat to something you definitely didn’t ask for. Just trying to buy some milk, you know?
