Okay, so I’ve been getting into UFC lately, and I was super curious about the gloves they wear. Like, how much do those things even weigh? So I went down a rabbit hole, and here’s what I found out, and how I figured it out.

My Little Experiment
First, I just Googled “ufc weight gloves”. I saw a few different numbers, but nothing concrete. Some said 4 ounces, some said 6. Seemed kinda light, right?
So then I got thinking, maybe I should try some on, get a feel for it, you know, really get a grasp of the weight and density.
So I went to the local sports shop. Tried to find some “official” UFC gloves. Nope. But, they did have some MMA training gloves. I picked them up.
- First Impression: Felt way heavier than I thought! Definitely not just 4 ounces.
- Checked the Label: Most of these were in the 12-16 ounce range. These are for training, though, so they’re probably padded more.
I asked the dude at the shop, and he said, “Yeah, competition gloves are lighter. More like what you saw online, around 4-6 ounces.”
So, I started with a simple search, moved to some hands-on, and then a bit of expert (sort of!) advice, combined it all together, and boom!

The takeaway? UFC competition gloves are pretty light, around 4 to 6 ounces. It makes sense – they want those punches to land hard! Training gloves are heavier for protection. And, it all started with a simple question, and got more detailed as I messed around and found more info.
