Alright, let’s talk about my recent dive into the “Trial of Devotion” in Risk of Rain 2. Man, what a ride! So, I’d heard whispers about this thing, a secret challenge that unlocks some seriously cool stuff, and I thought, “Hey, I’m pretty decent at this game, let’s give it a shot.” Big mistake? Maybe. Worth it? Absolutely!

First off, finding the damn thing. You gotta head to the Bazaar Between Time. I usually get there after the first or second loop, ya know, when things are starting to get a little spicy. Then, you gotta hunt around for this little blue orb floating near the Newt Altar. It’s kinda hidden, so keep your eyes peeled. Once you find it, you gotta interact with it, and that’s when the fun begins.
Now, this is where things get hairy. The “Trial of Devotion” throws a wave of enemies at you, like, a LOT of enemies. And not just any enemies, these are the souped-up, elite versions. We’re talking blazing lemurians, overloading golems, and those damn ghostly jellyfish that just won’t die. It’s a total chaos fest.
I went in with my trusty Commando build, rocking a few damage items like the Lens Maker’s Glasses and the Soldier’s Syringe. Figured I’d just DPS my way through it. Wrong. I got absolutely annihilated on my first attempt. I was overwhelmed, couldn’t keep up with the incoming damage, and basically just melted. Lesson learned: DPS alone ain’t gonna cut it.
So, I regrouped, did some research (aka watched some YouTube videos), and realized I needed more survivability. Next run, I focused on grabbing items like the Tougher Times, the Medkit, and the Paul’s Goat Hoof for extra mobility. I also switched to the Huntress, thinking her mobility would help me kite the enemies. This time, I lasted a lot longer, but still eventually got overwhelmed. Those elites just hit too damn hard!
Finally, on my third attempt, I had a breakthrough. I decided to use the Engineer. His turrets can soak up a ton of damage, and his bubble shield provides some much-needed protection. I also prioritized items that buffed my turrets, like the Bustling Fungus and the Repulsion Armor Plate. This time, it felt different. I was able to set up a defensive perimeter, let my turrets do the heavy lifting, and slowly whittle down the enemy waves.

It was still incredibly intense. There were moments where I thought I was a goner, especially when those overloading golems started spawning. But I managed to stay alive, keep my turrets repaired, and eventually, the last enemy fell. The portal opened, and I emerged victorious!
The reward? Unlocking the Mercenary’s alternate special ability, which is seriously awesome. It basically turns him into a spinning whirlwind of death. Plus, the satisfaction of finally conquering that damn challenge.
So, yeah, the “Trial of Devotion” is no joke. It’s tough as nails, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. My advice? Don’t go in expecting to just DPS your way through it. Focus on survivability, find a character and build that works for you, and don’t be afraid to fail a few times. You’ll get there eventually. Good luck, and happy looting!
