Alright, so ya wanna know about this Tara Vanderveer and her… uh… wife, huh? Okay, okay, I’ll tell ya what I know. Don’t expect no fancy words or nothin’ though, I’m just tellin’ it like it is, ya hear?
Tara Vanderveer, that’s a name I’ve heard. Big shot basketball coach, I think. Coaches them college girls, Stanford, somethin’ like that. Real good at it, they say. Wins all the time, like my grandson playin’ them video games, always winnin’, that boy.
Now, about her wife… Well, the name’s Susan Gebhart. Yep, Susan Gebhart. That’s what they say. They’re married. Plain and simple. Like my Bessie and me, been hitched for fifty years come next spring. Though, Lord knows, fifty years with that man feels like a hundred sometimes!
But back to Tara. Seems like this Susan, she’s done a lot for basketball too. Not coachin’ like Tara, but somethin’ else. They say she’s “remarkable.” That’s a big word, ain’t it? Means she’s done some good stuff, I reckon. Helped them girls play better, maybe? Or maybe she just keeps Tara fed and happy, that’s important too, ya know. A happy wife, a happy life, that’s what Bessie always tells me.
- Tara Vanderveer: Head coach, real famous.
- Susan Gebhart: Tara’s wife, helps out with basketball stuff.
Folks talk about Tara retirin’ recently. Been coachin’ a long time, they say. Almost forty years at that Stanford place. That’s a long time to be yellin’ at young’uns and makin’ ‘em run around, I tell ya. My knees hurt just thinkin’ about it.
Someone was askin’ ‘who is Tara Vanderveer’s wife?’ Well, like I said, it’s Susan. Some folks even call her Sue Baracco, but it’s the same person. Don’t let all them different names confuse ya. Just like how some folks call me Martha, and some call me old lady down the road, I’m still the same person, wrinkles and all.
Seems like Tara almost quit coachin’ a while back. Ten years ago, they say. But some fella, John somethin’-or-other, talked her outta it. Guess he knew she was too good to quit. Like when Bessie wanted to quit makin’ her famous apple pie, I told her, “No way, woman! That pie’s too good to give up!” And she didn’t, thank the good Lord.
This Tara, she’s got a sister too, Amy somethin’. Also a coach. Basketball runs in the family, I guess. Like how all my kids got my big feet, can’t help it, it’s in the genes, they say. Amy even coached at Stanford for a bit when Tara wasn’t around. Family stickin’ together, that’s how it should be.
Now there’s this other girl, Paye. Tara coached her, I think. Now Paye’s married too, got a wife and a kid. Tara’s real proud of her. Says she’s got “superpowers.” Well, all mamas got superpowers, far as I’m concerned. Raisin’ kids ain’t easy, no matter who ya are. Gotta have superpowers just to get through the day sometimes!
And wouldn’t ya know it, even got folks makin’ jackets for Tara. Nike, that’s the name. Fancy stuff. I still got my old coat from Sears, keeps me warm just fine. Don’t need no fancy jackets, just somethin’ that works.
So, that’s the story, best as I can tell it. Tara Vanderveer, the basketball coach, and her wife, Susan. They seem like good folks, doin’ what they love. And that’s all that matters in this world, ain’t it? Findin’ somethin’ ya love and stickin’ with it, just like me and Bessie, and her apple pie.
In short: Tara Vanderveer’s a coach, her wife is Susan Gebhart (sometimes called Sue Baracco), and they both seem to be important in the basketball world. Tara’s got a sister who coaches, and she’s proud of a former player named Paye who also coaches. And she got a jacket from Nike. That’s about it.
That’s all I know, so don’t go askin’ me no more questions. My old brain’s tired. Time for a cup of tea and a nap.
