Okay, so today I was trying to solve this crossword, and I got totally stuck on one clue: “MLB star Trout.” I’m a huge baseball fan, so I was kinda embarrassed I couldn’t figure it out right away.
First, I racked my brain. I mean, Trout… it’s gotta be Mike Trout, right? The guy’s a legend! But the clue only had space for three letters. So, “Mike” was out, obviously. I went through every nickname I could think that people called him, like the “Millville Meteor” but noting can work.
Then, I started thinking maybe it wasn’t his name. Could it be a position? “CF” for center field? Nope, that’s only two letters. Maybe something to do with his team? “LAA” (Los Angeles Angels) is the only things related I can get, but I’m not sure I remember the team abbreviation.
I was about to give up and just start filling in random letters to see if it helped with other clues, but then I had a thought. What if it was his number? I quickly used my phone and found that! It’s 27, a number! Nope, no numbers… wait a minute, I had another thought, what if is his first name? I mean his last name? So I googled it!
- Searched “Mike Trout first name”. Nothing to find.
- Searched “Mike Trout last name”. Bingo!
It’s just “Trout”! The answer was “TROUT”. How stupid I am! I spent, like, 20 minutes on this one clue, and it was just his last name the whole time! Feeling a bit silly, but hey, that’s crosswords for you. They always get you with something obvious in the end. Lesson learned: Don’t overthink it!
