Okay, so today I decided to dig into some baseball stats, specifically looking at the St. Louis Cardinals vs. New York Yankees game. I wanted to pull up the player stats, and honestly, it took me a little bit to figure out the best way to do it. Here’s how it all went down.

My Initial Game Plan (Which Didn’t Totally Work)
First, I thought, “Okay, I’ll just google it!” I typed in something like “Cardinals Yankees player stats” and, you know, got a bunch of general game summaries and news articles. Not exactly what I was looking for. I needed the detailed breakdown, like, each player’s performance, not just the final score.
Finding a Better Way
Then I realized I needed to be more specific. It’s not just about the teams, I need a good stats source. I remembered a couple of websites that usually have good sports data.
The Process, Step-by-Step
- First Attempt: Straight-up Google search. Too broad, too many irrelevant results.
- Getting Smarter: I went to dedicated sports data website.
- Navigating the Site: Found the MLB section, then had to find the specific game (Cardinals vs. Yankees). There’s usually a calendar or a schedule to find past games.
- Bingo! Player Stats: Once I found the game, I looked for a “Box Score” or “Player Stats” link or tab. Clicked on that.
- Data Overload (Almost): Saw a table with all the players, their positions, and a whole bunch of stats – at-bats, hits, runs, RBIs, strikeouts, the whole nine yards!
What I Actually Saw
I’m no baseball expert, but even I could see who had a good game and who didn’t. I was checking out things like:
- Batting Average (AVG): How often a batter gets a hit.
- Runs Batted In (RBI): How many runs a batter has helped score.
- Strikeouts (K): How many times a batter got “out” by swinging and missing.
- For Pitchers – Earned Run Average(ERA): a stat that show how performance a pitcher.
Wrapping It Up
It was pretty cool to see all the data laid out like that. It definitely gives you a much better understanding of how each player contributed (or didn’t!) to the game. Now I am able to recond and check these data in the future!
