Okay, so I was trying to come up with a cool name for a racing game, the kind where you’re really pushing it to the limit, you know? And I had this phrase “pedal to the metal” stuck in my head. I wanted to make it sound even cooler, like old-school. So I thought, maybe I could find something in a crossword puzzle. Let the games begin!

First, I grabbed my phone and opened up a crossword puzzle app. I usually just do these to kill time, but today, I was on a mission. I needed inspiration.
Starting the Search
- Started with a basic crossword. Nothing fancy, just a regular daily one.
- Scanned through the clues. Looking for anything related to speed, cars, racing… anything that would fit.
I spent a good 20 minutes on the first puzzle. Nothing. Zilch. I was starting to think this whole “crossword for inspiration” thing was a bust.
But I’m not one to give up easily. I switched to a different crossword app. This one had themed puzzles. Maybe that would be better? I picked a “sports” themed one, figuring there might be something about racing in there.
Digging Deeper
- Tried a sports-themed crossword puzzle.
- Focused on clues related to speed, cars, and driving.
I plowed through clue after clue. “Athlete’s foot woe”… nope. “Baseball official”… nah. “___ Tin Tin”… getting warmer, but still not it. Then, I saw it:
“Intense head-to-head racing, old style.”

My heart skipped a beat. I know a little about cars, so Old style. It clicked!
I mean, it’s not exactly “pedal to the metal,” but its a good start and i can work from there.
The Wrap-up
So, that’s how I ended up on this wild goose chase through crossword puzzles. All in the name of finding some inspiration. This is how i make progress and work at problems.
