Well, let me tell you about this fella, Scott Drew. He’s that basketball coach, you know? The one at Baylor University. He’s been there a good long while, since way back in 2003, I reckon.

This Scott Drew, he ain’t no fool. He knows his basketball. He started coachin’ with his daddy, Homer Drew, over at Valparaiso. Then his daddy, he decided to hang it up in 2002, and Scott took over. He did alright there for a bit, but then he came on down to Baylor. And that’s where he’s been ever since, bless his heart.
He’s been coachin’ at Baylor for 22 seasons. That’s a long time in my book. And he’s won more games than any other coach they ever had there. 444 wins, they say. That’s a whole heap of wins. He’s the top dog in that Big 12 Conference, when it comes to stayin’ put in one place.
- He went to Butler University, got himself a degree in liberal arts.
- He’s a Christian man, goes to church and all that.
- He’s got a wife, Kelly, and three young’uns, a girl named Mackenzie and two boys named Peyton and Brody.
Scott Drew At Baylor University
Now, Baylor, they weren’t always so good at basketball. But Scott Drew, he changed all that. He took them from nothin’ to somethin’. They even won that big championship in 2021. First time ever for them. That was a big deal, I tell ya. Folks around here were hootin’ and hollerin’ for days.
He’s taken that Baylor team to the big tournament 12 times. Can you believe that? Twelve times! And they made it to the Sweet 16 five times, and even the Elite Eight three times. That’s mighty impressive, if you ask me. One time, they were even ranked number one in the whole country. That’s somethin’ special, let me tell you.
They even won 23 games in a row one year. That was somethin’ else. People were sayin’ they were unbeatable. And for five whole weeks, they were ranked number one. That Scott Drew, he sure knows how to get those boys to play.
That brother of his, Bryce, he’s a coach too, over at Grand Canyon University. So I reckon that coachin’ just runs in the family. But from all I hear, Scott Drew ain’t goin’ anywhere. He’s stayin’ put at Baylor. That’s good news for them folks down there in Waco, Texas. They sure do love their basketball.
Scott Drew Wins Big
I remember one time, I was feelin’ kinda down in the dumps. Didn’t have much to be happy about. But then, I heard about this Scott Drew, this young coach they just hired at Baylor. He was full of energy and all excited about coachin’. Just hearin’ about him made me feel a little better. He gave me a little hope, you know?
Now, I ain’t sayin’ he’s perfect. No one is. But Scott Drew, he’s a good coach and a good man. He cares about those boys he coaches. He teaches them about basketball, but he also teaches them about life. And that’s important, especially for young folks these days. They need someone to look up to, someone to show them the right way to go.
He’s got that team playin’ hard and playin’ together. That’s what it takes to win. You gotta have teamwork. You gotta have everyone pullin’ in the same direction. And Scott Drew, he knows how to make that happen. He’s a good leader, that’s for sure.

So, if you ever get a chance to watch Scott Drew and his Baylor Bears play, you do it. You’ll see what I mean. They play good, honest basketball. They play hard, and they play fair. And that’s all you can ask for. Scott Drew, he’s built somethin’ special down there at Baylor. And I reckon he’s gonna keep on buildin’ it for a long time to come.
He’s a good man, that Scott Drew. A good coach and a good man. And that’s all that really matters, ain’t it? Being good at what you do and being a good person while you’re doin’ it. That’s the way to live your life, I reckon. And Scott Drew, he’s livin’ it right.
