Well, howdy there! Let’s jaw about this Mississippi State University football team, ya hear? Folks are all worked up about the “depth chart,” whatever that fancy talk means. I reckon it’s just who’s gonna be playin’ and who’s gonna be sittin’ on the bench. Anyhow, let’s get down to brass tacks.

First things first, they got this here quarterback situation. I ain’t no expert, mind you, but seems like they got a few fellas fightin’ for that spot. Heard tell of this Michael Van Buren Jr. fella, slingin’ the ball around. Guess we’ll see if he’s any good when the real games start. They gotta have a good one, or we’re gonna be in a heap of trouble, ya know?
Now, on to them runnin’ backs. Used to be, you’d just give the ball to the biggest, toughest fella and let him plow through. Nowadays, they got all sorts of fancy moves and whatnots. But at the end of the day, you still gotta run hard and hold onto that dang football. I hope we got some backs that can do just that, none of that fancy stuff.
Then there’s the fellas catchin’ the ball, the wide receivers, they call ’em. They gotta be fast, I reckon, and have good hands. Can’t be droppin’ the ball all over the place, that’s for sure. Seein’ as how we like to throw the ball a bit now, gotta have some good catchers. Heard they got some young’uns, hope they’re up to snuff.
And don’t forget about them big boys up front, the offensive line. They gotta protect that quarterback and make holes for the runners. Tough job, that is. Gotta be strong and mean. If they ain’t any good, ain’t nothin’ else gonna matter much. Them linemen are the real deal, ya understand? They ain’t gonna get the glory, but they do the dirty work, just like us old folks on the farm.
Alright, let’s flip over to the defense now. They gotta stop the other team from scorin’, simple as that. Gotta have some fellas who can tackle and hit hard. And those cornerbacks, they gotta stick to them receivers like glue. Can’t let ’em get open, no sir. Defense wins championships, that’s what they always say. Heard we got some good defensive players this year, hope they live up to the hype.

- The defensive line gotta be strong and fast.
- The linebackers gotta be smart and quick.
- And them defensive backs gotta be able to cover and tackle.
Now, this whole “depth chart” thing, it just means they got backups for every position. In case somebody gets hurt or just ain’t playin’ good, they got somebody else ready to go. That’s important, ya know, ’cause football’s a rough game. Folks get banged up all the time. And these young fellas they are recruiting better be ready to step up.
They got this new coach, Jeff Lebby, folks are talking about. Says he’s gonna bring in a new way of doin’ things. Well, I hope he knows what he’s doin’. Football’s serious business down here, ya hear? We like to win. Don’t much care how they do it, long as they win. He’s gotta get these boys playing hard, playing together.
So, that’s the lowdown on this Mississippi State football team, as best as I can tell ya. They got a bunch of games coming up, startin’ with Eastern Kentucky. Then they gotta play all them other SEC teams, like Arkansas and Texas A&M. Tough schedule, that is. But if they play hard and stay healthy, they might just surprise some folks. We’ll be rootin’ for ’em, that’s for sure. Win or lose, it’s always fun to watch the Bulldogs play. They better not disappoint, or folks will get mighty upset.
And for those who care about the whole roster, you can find the whole Mississippi State Bulldogs Football roster online. It lists all the players, not just the starters. But honestly, most of them names don’t mean nothin’ to me. I just wanna see ’em play good football.
