Well now, let me tell you about this fella, Percy Harvin. Born way back in Chesapeake, Virginia, to a man named William Percival Harvin, Jr. and his wife Linda. They had two young’uns, and Percy was one of ’em. Now, his mama raised him, along with his sister, after his daddy took off. He grew up over in Virginia Beach, went to Landstown High, where he really started turnin’ heads. They say he was the best wide receiver in the whole dang country by some folks that keep track of them things.
Now, Percy, he was fast—real fast—and tough too. He went on to play college ball at the University of Florida. They say he helped the Florida Gators win all kinds of games, and he was real good at catchin’ that ball. By the time he was done there, he had all kinds of records, and the NFL teams were lookin’ at him like he was the next big thing.
In 2009, when Percy was just 21, he entered the NFL draft. Now, it ain’t no secret that he had some issues, some real bad luck. Word was, he had a little run-in with that devil’s lettuce, marijuana, during the combine. Some folks thought that might mess up his chances, but it didn’t. Despite that, he was still drafted in the first round, 22nd overall by the Minnesota Vikings.
Over the next few years, Percy played for quite a few teams. He started with the Vikings and did a real fine job, racking up a whole lotta yards and touchdowns. He had some good seasons too, especially in 2011, when he caught more balls than a squirrel catches acorns in fall. He made a career high that year in receptions, receiving yards, and even rushing yards. The man was everywhere, runnin’, catchin’, makin’ plays that made the crowd go wild.
But, you see, his career wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Injuries started to catch up with him. That’s how it goes in football, I reckon. He’d get knocked down, get back up, and then, wham, another injury. By 2014, he had a short stint with the Seattle Seahawks, helped ‘em win the Super Bowl, but his body just wasn’t holdin’ up like it used to.
Then, in 2016, outta nowhere, Percy decided he wasn’t done just yet. He un-retired and joined the Buffalo Bills. Well, he caught just one pass and ran the ball once, but that was about it. Guess it just wasn’t his time anymore, and he called it quits after that.
Now, even though he had a career full of ups and downs, Percy made a nice little pile of money. They say by 2023, he’s worth about $20 million. Not bad for a boy who started in Virginia Beach, huh?
So, if you’re lookin’ up when Percy Harvin started and joined teams, well, you’ve come to the right place. He first got drafted in 2009 by the Vikings, and he played ‘til 2016, though he took a little break in between. All in all, that’s about 8 seasons in the NFL, playin’ for the Vikings, Seahawks, Jets, and Bills. Not too shabby, if you ask me.
Percy Harvin’s Teams:
- 2009-2010: Minnesota Vikings
- 2011-2013: Seattle Seahawks
- 2014: New York Jets
- 2015-2016: Buffalo Bills
Key Stats:
- 353 catches
- 4,026 receiving yards
- 32 touchdowns
- 155 kick returns
Well, that’s about all I know on Percy Harvin, but he sure left his mark on the field. Even though he couldn’t stay healthy long enough to become a real legend, he was somethin’ special when he was out there playin’—fast, strong, and electrifyin’. Ain’t too many folks forgettin’ a guy like that.
