Well, folks, there’s been a lot of talk lately, folks wonderin’ if Edmundo Sosa and Sammy Sosa are kin. Now, I ain’t one to spread gossip, but let me tell ya, after hearin’ all the chatter, I gotta set things straight. Turns out, Edmundo and Sammy ain’t related, not even a little bit, though they sure do share that same last name, Sosa.
You see, Edmundo Sosa, he’s from Panama City, that’s down in Panama, and Sammy Sosa, well, he’s from the Dominican Republic. Two different places, two different countries, even though their last names match up. Now, you might be thinkin’, “Well, they both got that Sosa name, maybe they’re cousins or somethin’?” but that ain’t the case. They might sound the same when you say it, but they’re not family. Nope, not at all.
Now, some people get confused, and I understand, it’s easy to do. They both play baseball, right? Edmundo’s a shortstop and Sammy, well, he’s a big ol’ right fielder. They both got good skills on the field, but just ’cause you see two folks doin’ the same thing don’t mean they’re related. In fact, Sammy Sosa, who was born Samuel Sosa Peralta, he’s got his own family back home in the Dominican Republic. He got married to Sonia Rodriguez, and they had four children together. Their names are Michael, Sammy Jr., Keysha, and Kenia. Then, after some time, Sammy got married again to a woman named Karen Lee Bright. But nowhere in there does Edmundo’s name come up.
So, when folks start talkin’ about how Edmundo and Sammy might be cousins or brothers, well, it just don’t hold up. Sammy’s got kinfolk, sure enough. His father, Juan, was a farmer, but he passed away when Sammy was just a young boy, leavin’ his mother, Lucrecia, to raise him and his siblings. They all grew up in the Dominican Republic, not in Panama like Edmundo. Now, Sammy’s got some family, including his cousin Merqui Sosa and another fella named José Antonio Peralta Sosa. But Edmundo? He don’t fit into that picture.
Now, let me tell ya, it ain’t just that their families don’t mix up. No, it’s more than that. Edmundo Sosa, the Panama native, he’s been makin’ a name for himself as a professional baseball player too, but in a whole different country. He plays for the St. Louis Cardinals as a shortstop, while Sammy, well, Sammy was big with the Chicago Cubs, and later the Texas Rangers. They both play ball, but they ain’t playin’ on the same family team, that’s for sure.
Folks might think that just ’cause they got the same last name and both play baseball, they might be brothers or somethin’, but I tell ya, that ain’t true. Now, if you ask me, the Sosa name’s a mighty fine name, but just ’cause folks got the same last name don’t mean they share the same family tree. Ain’t no blood relation between Edmundo and Sammy, so don’t go spreadin’ rumors about it. It’s a nice thought, I suppose, but that’s all it is—a thought, and nothin’ more.
Now, I hope that clears things up for all ya wonderin’ folks out there. It don’t matter if they’re both playin’ baseball, or if they got that same Sosa last name. Edmundo and Sammy ain’t related, and that’s all there is to it. So, let’s not get too tangled up in that, and let these two fine players keep doin’ their thing on the field without us tryin’ to make ’em kin. They both worked hard for their own names, and that’s what matters in the end.
