Okay, so I wanted to mess around with the New Orleans Pelicans logo. You know, the basketball team? I think it’s a pretty cool logo, and I wanted to see if I could do something with it.
First, I had to do a little digging. I didn’t know much about the team’s history or why they even changed their name to the Pelicans in the first place. Turns out, the owner, Tom Benson, bought the team (which used to be called the Hornets) back in 2012 for like, over 300 million dollars. He felt like the name “Hornets” didn’t really connect with the city. Makes sense, I guess. I mean, the pelican is the state bird of Louisiana, so it’s got a stronger local vibe.
So, I went looking for the actual logo. The one they used right after they changed their name from Hornets. It’s got this pelican head looking straight at you, wings spread out, holding a basketball. Not bad, right?
- Find the logo: I searched for the New Orleans Pelicans logo and found some high quality image.
- Study the logo: I looked at it real close, the colors, the shapes, all that good stuff. It’s a pretty strong image, and I wanted to make sure I understood what made it tick.
- Start working with the logo: I just wanted to see what I could do with it.
And, get this, the designer, some guy named Rodney Richardson, said the logo “embodies the spirit and culture of the city.” I can see that. It’s definitely got that New Orleans feel to it.
Anyway, I started playing around with the logo. I really think the logo is a great one. I tried to make it more menancing since I found some text saying it is supposed to look like that.
What I came up with
It wasn’t easy, and I’m still not sure if I totally nailed it, but I think I learned a lot about the logo and the team’s history. I think it looks pretty cool and menacing now! It was a fun little project.
