So, I was digging through my closet the other weekend. You know how it is, looking for something else entirely. And bam, there it was. Tucked way in the back.

This bright green John Deere polo shirt. Still looked pretty fresh, barely worn.
I remember picking this thing up ages ago. Think it was at some dealer event or maybe a state fair? Can’t recall exactly. But I grabbed it thinking, ‘Hey, this looks pretty decent. Could wear this for golf’.
That was the plan, anyway. Wear it out on the green. Look respectable, you know? Like I maybe knew what I was doing out there.
Thing is, I never did. Never wore it for golf. Not once.
Life gets in the way, doesn’t it? You buy stuff with one idea in mind, and it just sits there. The golf clubs gather dust next to it, maybe.

Why It Just Sat There
It wasn’t just about being busy, I don’t think. Maybe I just never got around to those casual golf games I imagined.
Or maybe the shirt felt… I don’t know, a bit much? John Deere, you think tractors, hard work, right? Golf feels like the opposite, trying to relax. Seemed like an odd match sometimes in my head, even though it’s just a polo.
It kind of reminds me of this one gig I had. They gave us all these branded shirts for some ‘fun’ corporate event. We were supposed to feel like a team. But nobody really felt it. We just wore the shirts. The shirt was there, but the feeling wasn’t. A bit like my golf shirt plan, maybe.
Anyway, I pulled it out last week. Needed something sturdy for yard work. Figured, why not? It’s green – hides grass stains, right?
So there I was, trimming the hedges in my ‘golf’ shirt. Felt kinda funny, but practical.

And it hit me. This shirt is actually perfect for real work. Not pretending on a golf course, but actual sweat-inducing stuff around the house.
- It’s comfortable enough.
- It feels pretty durable.
- Nobody cares what you look like when you’re battling weeds.
So yeah. The John Deere golf polo. Never made it to the fairway with me. Ended up being a darn good gardening shirt. Better that way, I think. More honest, maybe. Found its real purpose.
Sometimes things work out differently than you plan, and that’s okay. Often better, even. Just gotta use things for what works.
