Okay, so today I wanted to try something a bit different and fun – I decided to tackle a “holier-than-thou” crossword puzzle. I’d heard about these and thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
Getting Started
First off, I had to find one of these puzzles. I just searched on the web, and there were a bunch of them. I picked one that looked challenging but not too crazy.
Diving In
I started with the clues that I thought I knew the answers to right away. It was pretty satisfying to fill in those first few squares. Felt like I was off to a good start, you know?
- Across:
- 1. Sanctimonious sort (5) – I wrote in “SAINT” pretty confidently.
- 4. Pious type (7) – This one took a bit more thought, but I went with “DEVOTEE”.
- Down:
- 1. Smug preacher (9) – This one was a doozy. I eventually figured out it was “MORALIZER”.
- 2. Like a Pharisee (5) – “HYPOCRITE” fit the bill here, but I had to double-check the crossing words.
Hitting a Wall
But then, I hit a wall. Some of the clues were just too hard. I mean, I had to really think about the words that were related to being “holier-than-thou”. It wasn’t as easy as I expected. I spent a good chunk of time just staring at the puzzle, trying different words in my head.
Getting Help
I didn’t want to cheat, but I did end up looking up a few words in a thesaurus. It helped a bit, gave me some ideas. I figured it wasn’t really cheating if I was just getting a little nudge, right?
The Final Stretch
Slowly but surely, I started filling in more of the puzzle. It was like a little victory every time I got a word right. There were a couple of clues that I was really proud of figuring out on my own. It’s funny how satisfying it can be to solve something like this.
Wrapping Up
Finally, after a good while, I finished the whole thing! It felt great to see it all filled in. I won’t lie, it was tougher than I thought it would be. But hey, I learned a few new words, and it was a fun way to kill some time. Would I do it again? Yeah, probably. Maybe next time I’ll try an even harder one.
So, that’s my little adventure with a “holier-than-thou” crossword. Hope you enjoyed hearing about it!
