Okay, so I gotta share my experience with this “mtgburrowed” set everyone’s been talking about. Honestly, I was hyped. I mean, who doesn’t love new cards? But this? This was a whole different level of…disappointing.
It all started like any other set release. I pre-ordered a box, got my playgroup together, and we were ready to crack some packs. The first few? Nothing special. A couple of decent uncommons, maybe a rare or two that I thought might see play in some niche Commander deck.
Then, things started to get weird. We started pulling cards that just…didn’t make sense. Like, the abilities were all over the place. One card would give a creature +1/+1, then the next would make you discard your hand, and then another would…I don’t even know, make you sing a song? Okay, maybe not that last one, but it felt that random.
The “Burrowing” Mechanic
- it just so messy.
The main mechanic, this “burrowing” thing, was supposed to be the set’s highlight. But in practice, it was just clunky. You’d spend all this time setting up these elaborate board states, only to have your opponent “burrow” something and completely mess up your whole * it’s so hard to use.
And the power level? Don’t even get me started. Some of the cards were ridiculously overpowered, while others were completely useless. It felt like they just threw a bunch of ideas at a wall and hoped something would stick.
We tried to make it work. We really did. We brewed some decks, played some games, but it just wasn’t fun. The games were either over super quickly because of some broken combo, or they dragged on forever because nobody could actually do anything meaningful.
By the end of the night, we were all just frustrated. The box was mostly untouched, and we ended up switching back to playing Commander with our old, reliable decks. It was like a breath of fresh air after struggling with the “mtgburrowed” set all night.
So, yeah, my advice? Save your money. This set is a mess. Maybe it’ll get better with future sets, but right now, it’s just not worth the hassle. I picked up my old cards and enjoyed them.
