Okay, so today I was watching baseball, and I heard the commentators talking about something called a “doubleheader.” I had no clue what that was, so I got curious and decided to look it up. Turns out, it’s pretty simple!
I went ahead and did some digging online. Basically, I just typed “mlb what are doubleheaders” into the search bar. The search engine showed me a bunch of different websites talking about it.
After checking out a few of those, I learned that a doubleheader in Major League Baseball is when two teams play two games back-to-back on the same day. It’s like a two-for-one deal for the fans! There are a couple of different types, too.
- Traditional Doubleheader: This is where the second game starts right after the first one ends. Fans who have tickets for the first game can enjoy the second one as well! It feels like a bonus game.
- Day-Night Doubleheader: In this case, one game is in the afternoon and the other is in the evening. It was new for me that fans need separate tickets for each game.
What I found interesting was that there’s also something called a “twi-night” doubleheader. Apparently, the first game is played in the late afternoon, and then there’s a short break before the second game starts. It is designed to fit two games in one day.
From what I read, it seems like doubleheaders are a regular thing in the MLB. And in 2023, they’ve gone back to having traditional doubleheaders. In the Minor Leagues and college baseball, doubleheaders are also used, but the games are shorter, usually seven innings instead of nine.
So, yeah, that’s what I learned about doubleheaders in baseball today. It’s a cool way to get more baseball action in a single day, and I can see why fans would like it. Hope this helps anyone else who was wondering the same thing!
