Okay, so I’ve been messing around with MLB The Show 24, and let me tell you, the whole two-way player thing is a bit of a trip. I wanted to make a player just like Ohtani, you know, a guy who can pitch like a beast and hit bombs.
First, I started up the game and created a custom player, which was pretty fun. I spent a good amount of time figuring out how to make a guy who I thought could do it all. My first plan was to try it out in Franchise mode. After creating my guy, I imported him into my team.
Trying to Get it to Work
So, I went into the settings, trying to edit him and set him up as a two-way player. I dug through all the menus, but it just wasn’t clear how to do it. I figured, “Maybe it’s like last year,” where you had to set him as a pitcher first, then fielding. But nope, that didn’t seem to work either.
I remembered reading somewhere that you could do it with AL teams, using them as a DH and a starter. So I switched things up, tried to place my player in those roles, but still, it wasn’t clicking. It felt like I was missing something obvious.
The Ohtani Realization
Then it hit me. I saw some posts online talking about how Ohtani is the only one already set up for this in Diamond Dynasty (DD). That’s when I realized the game really highlights Ohtani as the special case for being a two-way player. I mean, they even have a 99 OVR Milestone version of him to celebrate his skills.
I decided to play a bit with Ohtani in DD just to see how it’s supposed to work. And yeah, you can put him in as a DH and also have him as your starting pitcher. It’s pretty cool, but it also made me think that maybe the game isn’t really built for any custom player to do this easily.
My Experiment
After messing around with Ohtani, I went back to my custom player. I tried a few more things, experimented with different settings, but honestly, it felt like forcing a square peg into a round hole. It’s kind of a bummer because the idea of creating your own two-way star is awesome.
What I Learned
- It seems like MLB The Show 24 really wants to keep the two-way player thing exclusive to Ohtani, at least in the way it’s easily accessible.
- Creating a custom two-way player and getting it to work smoothly in Franchise mode is not as straightforward as I hoped.
- The game does a great job showcasing Ohtani’s unique abilities, but it leaves you wanting more for custom players.
So yeah, that’s my experience with trying to get a two-way player going in MLB The Show 24. It’s a bit of a letdown if you’re trying to create your own guy, but it’s still cool to see how they handle Ohtani. Maybe they’ll improve this in future updates, who knows?
