Well, now, let me tell ya ‘bout this fella Michael Gallup, who done signed himself a big ol’ contract with them Dallas Cowboys. He’s been playin’ football for a good while now, and let me tell ya, the money he’s makin’ is enough to make anyone’s head spin!
It was back in March 2022 when Gallup signed a five-year contract worth a whopping $57,500,000 with them Cowboys. Now, that’s a whole lotta zeros, ain’t it? And on top of all that money, he got himself a $10 million signing bonus right up front. Must’ve felt like winning the lottery to him, I reckon. His contract’s gonna last ‘til 2026, so he’ll be around for a few more years, makin’ all that cash, unless somethin’ changes, of course.
Now, I gotta tell ya, folks around here been talkin’ about him, and some say that he’s gettin’ paid handsomely for his skills, but there’s a reason behind all this, too. Ya see, Gallup, he done tore his ACL back in 2021, and that surely didn’t help matters none. He missed a good chunk of that season, and even though he’s been playin’ with all his might, them football hits sure do take their toll. It’s like when you keep pushin’ a mule too hard—you don’t see it at first, but sooner or later, that mule’s gonna get worn out.
But back to the contract. This here deal, as big as it sounds, ain’t just about the numbers, though. It’s also about the role he’s playin’ on that team. When they traded Amari Cooper off to the Browns, it left a big ol’ hole in the Cowboys’ wide receiver lineup. So, the Cowboys knew they had to do somethin’, and that somethin’ was keepin’ Gallup around. They went ahead and made sure he stayed in Dallas with this big ol’ deal. Gallup’s their No. 3 wide receiver, and that means he’s important, even though he ain’t always the first one on the list.
But don’t be thinkin’ all this money and glory means it’s been smooth sailin’ for ol’ Gallup. That torn ACL from 2021 still gets folks talkin’. Football’s a tough game, and injuries like that can really mess with a fella’s career. Gallup, he been good about fightin’ through it, but who knows how long he’ll last. Some say he might hang it up early. They say football’s a young man’s game, and after all them years takin’ hits, it ain’t always easy to keep on goin’.
As of 2024, Gallup signed himself another little contract. This time, it was just a one-year deal with them Raiders, valued at $1.75 million. Not too shabby for just one year, but far from that big ol’ contract he signed with the Cowboys. Ain’t no bonus as big neither, just a small $327,500 bonus. But, like I said, football don’t last forever, and maybe Gallup’s tryin’ to make the most of what he can now before the wear and tear catches up with him.
It sure looks like the Cowboys been doin’ some shufflin’ on their roster, too. They done restructured Gallup’s contract, likely to give ’em more room under that salary cap. That’s somethin’ teams like the Cowboys do when they’re tryin’ to free up some space to make other moves, but it sure shows that they still value ol’ Gallup on their team.
So, all in all, that Michael Gallup contract is a mighty fine piece of business for him, I’d say. But football’s a tough sport, and like with anything, it can all change in the blink of an eye. Let’s just hope Gallup keeps on keepin’ on and makes the most of his time on the field. Ain’t too many folks get to see the kind of payday he’s got, so he’s one lucky fella, no doubt about it.
