Well, let me tell ya, this Max Stassi fella sure knows how to make a deal! Back in 2022, he signed a big ol’ contract with the Los Angeles Angels. It was a 3-year deal, worth a whopping $17.5 million! That’s right, folks, $17.5 million! I can’t even imagine havin’ that much money. The way I understand it, he’s gettin’ about $5.8 million a year on average. That’s a whole lotta corn for one fella, I tell ya.
Now, the contract’s not all smooth sailing, though. In 2025, he’s supposed to get a base salary of $500,000. But wait, there’s more! The total salary that year is gonna be $7.5 million, and they’ll still owe him $500,000 if they don’t use him, which is what they call a dead cap value. Sounds like a fancy term, don’t it? It just means they gotta pay him even if he ain’t playin’ much.
But that’s not the end of it! This year, 2024, he got traded from the Angels to the Braves, and they’re gonna cover most of his salary. So, in a way, Max Stassi’s makin’ out like a bandit, gettin’ paid and not even workin’ for it all the time! He’s owed $7 million this year alone. And you know what? I think the Braves are gonna pay the most of it. That’s a sweet deal, don’t ya think?
Then, just recently, ol’ Max decided to retire from Major League Baseball. Can you believe it? After 15 years in the game, he’s hangin’ up his mitt. Max took to the ol’ social media to tell the world. He said, “I’ve been blessed with many incredible opportunities.” I reckon it’s true. Fifteen years playin’ ball, and look at the money he’s made. He’s probably sittin’ pretty in his ol’ rocking chair now.
But let me tell ya, the way the Braves and Angels are goin’ about it, it’s like a big ol’ swap meet. First, they made a trade for Max, sendin’ some other players back and forth. The Angels sent Evan White and Tyler Thomas to the Braves in exchange for David Fletcher and Max Stassi. Now, the Braves are payin’ a good chunk of Stassi’s salary, which is nice for the Angels, but it don’t change the fact that Max Stassi’s gonna retire with quite a nice sum in his pocket.
Max Stassi’s contract might sound like a whole lotta fuss over a few years of playin’ ball, but when you look at it closely, it’s clear this fella’s gonna be alright. Even if he don’t step onto the field no more, he’s got money comin’ in for years. And that, my friends, is what they call a good deal!
