Okay, so I decided to figure out what the projected cut line would be for the 2024 Masters. It’s a bit of a tradition for me to see how things are shaping up after the first two rounds.
First, I needed to check out what happened in the previous year, so I dug around a bit and found that the cut line in 2023 was 3-over par. But here’s the kicker, this year, it’s way higher, sitting at 6-over par. That’s three whole strokes more! Can you believe it? It really shook things up.
Then I started looking into the players. Some big names like Justin Thomas, Wyndham Clark, Jordan Spieth, Viktor Hovland, and even Dustin Johnson, they all missed the cut! They’re among the 29 players who won’t be playing in the last two rounds. It’s a real bummer for them, I bet.
Next, I had to remind myself how the cut actually works. I remembered that from 2013 to 2019, it included the top 50 players and ties, plus anyone within 10 strokes of the leader. But they changed it up in 2020, and that’s the rule they’re still using in 2024. Basically, only the low 50 players and ties get to play in the final two rounds.
So, I spent a good chunk of time going through the leaderboard to see who was where. It’s pretty straightforward – to make the cut after 36 holes, you gotta be in the top 50.
I found out that this is the first time Viktor Hovland will miss the cut at the Masters. This is crazy, he is a really good player!
Wrapping it Up
It was interesting to see how much higher the cut line was this year. I guess the course must be playing tougher, or maybe the weather’s been a factor. Anyway, it’s always fun to follow along and see how these things play out. I even had to find out which players missed the cut this year.
This whole thing took me longer than I thought it would, but it was worth it. Now I’m all set to enjoy the final two rounds and see who comes out on top!
