Okay, so the other day, my buddies and I tried out this thing called a “shamble” in golf. Never heard of it before, but it sounded interesting, so we gave it a shot. It’s like a mix of regular golf and playing as a team, which is pretty cool.
We started by all teeing off like usual. I whacked the ball, and it landed pretty decent. Then my friends took their shots, and some were better than mine, some were worse.
Now, here’s where it gets different. We picked the best drive out of the group. Not gonna lie, it was one of my friend’s shots, but hey, it’s all about the team, right? We all moved our balls to that spot. It felt a bit weird, but also kinda neat, like we were all getting a second chance.
- From there, it was back to regular golf.
- I swung my club, watched the ball fly (or not fly, depending on the shot), and counted my strokes.
- Each of us did the same, from that same starting point, but then playing our own balls.
It was kind of funny, seeing four balls scattered around the fairway from the same starting point. A bit chaotic, even.
We kept track of our scores individually, like normal. But at the end of the hole, we picked the two lowest scores from our group and added them together for the team score.
So, say I shot a 5, two of my friends got 4s, and the other got a 6. We’d take the two 4s, add them up, and that’s 8 for our team on that hole.
A bit strange, but fun
We did this for all 18 holes. It was a bit strange at first, but actually pretty fun. You get the excitement of a good drive for the whole team, but then you still have to play well yourself to help the team score. It’s a good balance, I guess.
In the end, we added up all the team scores for each hole, and that gave us our final team score. We didn’t win any trophies, but we had a good laugh, and that’s what matters, right? It’s definitely a different way to play golf, and I reckon we’ll try it again sometime.
