Okay, so I saw this “natalie reynolds painted” thing trending and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I’m no artist, but I enjoy messing around with paints and stuff. So, I figured I’d document my whole clumsy process here.
Getting Started
First, I googled Natalie Reynolds to see what kind of art she does. Turns out, it’s a lot of vibrant, abstract stuff. Cool, but intimidating!
I grabbed some cheap canvas board I had lying around, some acrylic paints (the basic colors, nothing fancy), and a couple of brushes I got from a dollar store. My “studio” was basically my kitchen table covered in newspaper.
The Messy Part
- I started by just squeezing some paint onto the canvas. No plan, just random blobs of blue, red, yellow, and white.
- Then, I took a brush and started swirling the colors together. It looked like a total disaster at first, I’m not gonna lie.
- I added some more white in places, trying to create some lighter areas. It kinda started to look like… a very abstract sky? Maybe?
- I used a smaller brush to add some little details. I don’t even know what I was trying to paint, just squiggles and dots.
The “Is This Art?” Moment
I stepped back and looked at it. Honestly, it was… interesting. Not exactly like Natalie Reynolds’ work, but it had some of that same energy, I guess. It was definitely colorful and abstract. Whether it’s “good” or not is another question entirely.
My Takeaways
This was fun! Even though I have zero skills, I enjoyed the process of just throwing paint on a canvas and seeing what happened. It’s kind of freeing to not worry about making it perfect.
Would I do it again? Maybe. I’d probably need to watch a few more tutorials first, though. Or at least buy some better brushes. This was a totally amateur attempt, but hey, everyone starts somewhere, right?
