He’s a big name in that golf thing. Lots of folks watchin’ him. They say he’s one of the best. Now, I ain’t no expert on this golf stuff, but I reckon he’s pretty darn good.
This golf game, it’s a funny thing. They got all these fancy clubs, and they try to hit that little ball into a tiny hole. Seems like a lot of work to me! But hey, folks like it. They say it’s relaxing. Me, I’d rather sit on my porch and watch the birds, but that’s just me. This Ernie, he makes it look easy, though. I guess that’s why he’s a pro, this golf pro Ernie. He just hits the ball far away.
You know, I heard some folks say you gotta start young to be good at golf. Like them little kids on TV. But I don’t know. Seems to me like anyone can try it. Even if you’re, you know, not a spring chicken anymore. They say 40 ain’t too old. Shoot, I’m way past 40, and I could probably still swing a club. Maybe not like this Ernie fella, but I could give it a try.
Now, I seen some folks learnin’ how to play this golf. They got these teachers, you know, showin’ ’em how to hold the club and all that. And they got these books, too. Big, thick books all about golf. Seems complicated. But I guess if you wanna be like that golf pro Ernie, you gotta learn somehow. They say golf is good for your health.
They even got videos now. On that internet thing. You can watch folks playin’ golf and teachin’ you how to do it. My grandson, he showed me some. It’s all movin’ pictures, you know. Pretty fancy. If you wanna learn about golf, I reckon that’s a good place to start. It is way easier than reading books.

They got these big grassy fields where they play this golf. They call ’em courses. Big, green places with little flags stickin’ out of the ground. And they ride around in these little carts. Looks like fun, I guess. Except for all that walkin’. My old knees ain’t what they used to be. If you like to walk, you can play golf.
This Ernie, he plays on all the best courses, I reckon. All over the world. He’s a big shot, that one. They say he’s won a lot of money playin’ golf. More money than I’ve ever seen in my whole life! Good for him, I say. He must be really good to get that much money. That’s what my grandson said.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about tryin’ this golf thing, don’t you worry about bein’ too old or not knowin’ how. Just find one of them teachers or watch them videos. And don’t forget them special shoes. If you wanna be a golf pro, you should practice everyday. And one day maybe you’ll be like that Ernie fella. Who knows? I think Ernie is a good player.
But me, I’ll stick to my porch and my birds. That’s enough excitement for me. This old gal ain’t cut out for chasin’ that little white ball around. But this golf pro Ernie, he sure seems to enjoy it. He can play better than other people. He can make money by playing golf. That’s all I know about that golf. It is a difficult game. You need to practice a lot if you want to be a pro like Ernie.
