Alright, let’s talk about this Kyrie Irving fella. Folks keep jabberin’ about him, so I figured I’d put in my two cents, ya know? Don’t expect no fancy words or nothin’, just plain talk.
So, this Kyrie, he plays basketball. Plays it real good, they say. Folks are callin’ him a star, like them shiny things up in the sky at night. He’s been on a bunch of teams, bounced around like a rubber ball. Cav-lee-urs, Nets, now with them Mavericks in Dallas. Dallas, that’s in Texas, right? Heard it’s hot there.
Now, they say he’s an “All-Star”. Means he’s real good, I guess. Like the best tomatoes in the garden, the plumpest ones. Been an All-Star eight times, that’s what they told me. That’s a lot of times, seems like he must be somethin’ special. And he even won a championship with them Cav-lee-urs back in 2016. Championship, that’s like winnin’ the big prize at the county fair, only bigger, I reckon.
- He’s good at dribblin’ the ball. Like bouncing it up and down, but fancy-like.
- He can shoot the ball real well. Throws it in the hoop, swish!
- He’s quick, like a rabbit in the garden. Hard to catch him, they say.
They also say he’s smart. Real smart. Got a high IQ, whatever that means. I guess it means he ain’t no dummy. Some folks even say his IQ is 150! Higher than a beanpole, I guess. He went to some fancy schools, Mont-clair Kimberley and St. Patrick High School. Sounds like them city schools, not like our little schoolhouse back home.
He’s got a family too. A wife, Marlene, and two little young’uns. That’s nice. A family man, just like my Jed was. Keeps his feet on the ground, hopefully. You know, family’s important.
Now, this Dallas team, the Mavericks, they ain’t won no championship since way back in 2011. That’s a long time ago, even longer than it takes for my tomatoes to ripen! They’re hopin’ Kyrie can help them win another one. Him and that other fella, Luka somethin’-or-other. Two stars on one team, they say that’s a good thing. Like plantin’ two strong corn stalks side-by-side.
Folks are talkin’ about Kyrie’s contract too. Seems like he can choose where he wants to play next. Like pickin’ which stall at the market you want to buy your vegetables from. They say Dallas wants to keep him, but who knows? These fellas with their money, they change their minds quicker than a weather vane in a tornado.
And there’s talk about another fella, Klay Thompson, joining them Mavericks. Another good player, I hear. Maybe that’ll be enough to get them that championship. It’s like addin’ another egg to the cake batter, makes it richer, they say. They are hoping that he is the final piece of the puzzle. That’s what they all are sayin’.
So, that’s the lowdown on Kyrie Irving, as far as I can tell. A good basketball player, a family man, and a fella with some choices to make. Will he stay in Dallas? Will he win another championship? Only time will tell, I reckon. Just like plantin’ seeds, you gotta wait and see what grows.
Now, don’t go askin’ me about stats and all that fancy stuff. I just tell it like I see it. And from what I see, this Kyrie fella is somethin’ else. But like I always say, watchin’ them play ball is like watchin’ chickens in the yard – sometimes they surprise ya, and sometimes they just peck around.
And they pay him a bunch of money for bouncing the ball. A lot of money! More than I’ve ever seen in my life! It’s crazy how they pay these people when my neighbor had to work her whole life in the fields and still has nothing left to show for it.
So that’s the story on this Kyrie fellow, at least what I have heard from folks and on that little box everyone keeps starin’ at all day.
