Okay, so I saw this phrase, “wrestling is real, people are fake,” and it kinda stuck with me. I figured, why not put this to the test? Let’s dive in and see what this really means.

Phase 1: Getting into Wrestling
First things first, I had to actually watch some wrestling. I’ve seen bits and pieces before, but never really watched it. So, I fired up some old-school matches – you know, the ones with Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. Then, I checked out some newer stuff, like WWE and AEW. I gotta say, the athleticism is insane! These guys and gals are putting their bodies on the line.
- Watched classic matches.
- Explored modern wrestling promotions.
- Observed a lot of bruises and body slams.
Phase 2: Meeting “Real” People
Next up was trying to figuring out that second part “people are fake”.
For this, I used to go to a ton of industry events and “networking” things and my god most of people are totally fake.
But this time, I just decided to pay more attention to everyday interactions. I started conversations with strangers at the grocery store, the coffee shop, even the bus stop.

- Initiated small talk with random people.
- Listened more than I spoke.
- Tried to gauge sincerity levels.
Phase 3: The Verdict
So, after a week of flying dropkicks (on TV, of course) and awkward small talk, what did I find? Well, the wrestling part? Definitely real. Those hits, those falls, the sheer effort – you can’t fake that. I even pulled a muscle just trying to imitate a suplex on my couch! (Don’t try that at home.)
As for the “people are fake” part… it’s complicated. I met some genuinely nice folks. I also encountered some people who seemed like they were wearing a mask, putting on a show. It’s probably not that everyone is fake, but maybe everyone is just trying to present a certain version of themselves. Maybe we are all wrestlers in a way, performing our lives with differenct roles.
Ultimately I realized the “wrestling is real people are fake”, is more of a matter of perspective.
