Alright, let’s talk about this fella, John Flaherty. Now, I ain’t no fancy baseball expert, ya hear? Just a regular person talkin’ about what I know, or what I heard tell of.
So, this John fella, they call him “Flash” sometimes. Sounds like a quick fella, don’t it? He played a whole bunch of baseball, like, 14 years! That’s a long time to be hittin’ balls and catchin’ ‘em, I reckon. He played for a few different teams, even them Yankees everyone talks about, and the Devil Rays too. Important stuff, gotta remember that.
- Played for 14 seasons.
- Played for 5 teams, including the Yankees and Devil Rays.
Now, when he was hittin’ that ball, he got a .252 average. Don’t ask me what that means exactly, but it sounds kinda middlin’, you know? Not the best, not the worst. He hit 80 home runs too. That sounds like a lot! Imagine hittin’ somethin’ so hard it goes flyin’ outta the park! And he got 849 hits altogether. That’s a heap of hittin’, I tell ya. He played catcher, which means he squatted down a whole lot, poor fella. Must’ve had strong knees.
They say he was born in New York City back in 1967. Makes him an old fella now, I guess. He went to college at some place called George Washington University. Sounds fancy. And then he got drafted, that’s like gettin’ picked to play, in 1988. Wasn’t a high pick, see, he was number 641. But he still made it to the big leagues, so that shows ya somethin’ about stickin’ to it.
John Flaherty’s career, it wasn’t just all about the hittin’ and catchin’. He played in over a thousand games, 1,047 to be exact. That’s a lot of games, a lot of travelin’, and a lot of eatin’ ballpark food, I betcha. And he even got 319 runs, which means he ran around them bases a whole bunch. Folks talk about somethin’ called OPS, and his was .667. Don’t ask me what that is, but it sounds important to them baseball folks.
Now, he don’t play no more. He retired in 2006. Guess his knees finally gave out from all that squattin’. But he ain’t just sittin’ around. He’s on the TV now, talkin’ about baseball. So, he’s still in the game, just in a different way. He talks about other fellas hittin’ and catchin’ now.
They also say he lives in a place called Pearl River with his wife, Allyn, and their three young’uns, Kristen, Brian, and Logan. Sounds like a nice family man. And he’s Catholic, that’s good, church-goin’ folk. And he cares about things, ya know? Like this Black Lives Matter thing. He’s one of them biracial fellas himself, identifies as Black they say, and he stands up for what’s right. Good for him, I say.
This John Flaherty, he seems like a decent fella. Played a lot of baseball, worked hard, and now he’s got a family and talks on TV. He’s what you call a success story, I reckon. Not too flashy, even though they call him “Flash”, just a good, solid fella. And that’s all there is to it, really. John Flaherty, a baseball player, a family man, a good fella. Remember that. That’s the important stuff.
Now, if you wanna know all them fancy numbers and stats, you gotta go look it up somewhere else. I just told ya what I know, the way I understand it. Just plain talk, no fancy stuff. That’s how it is with John Flaherty.
