Okay, so I’ve been hearing a lot about this big Cyberpunk 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty thing. Got me thinking, you know? I still have my trusty old PS4 plugged in and figured I should check if I could get in on the action with it.

My Little Investigation
First thing I did was just hop online. Fired up my browser and punched in something like “Cyberpunk 2.0 update on PS4”. Pretty simple stuff. You get a ton of hits right away, news articles, forum chats, videos, the usual internet noise.
Scrolling through, I saw a mix of things. Some folks seemed hopeful early on, maybe wishful thinking? Others were pretty blunt saying “no chance”. It gets confusing when you just skim headlines, right? You gotta dig a bit deeper.
I decided I needed something official. Reading random comments on forums isn’t always the best way to get facts. So, I specifically looked for news directly from CD Projekt Red, the people who actually make the game. Searched for stuff like “CDPR statement Cyberpunk 2.0 last gen” or “Phantom Liberty PS4 official news”.
What I Found Out
After poking around on some reliable gaming news sites that quoted the developers and checking for official announcements, I got my answer. And, well, it’s pretty clear.
Bad news for us PS4 folks.

The big 2.0 update and that Phantom Liberty expansion? They are not coming to the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One. Seems like they drew a line in the sand. Those big upgrades are only for the newer consoles – PS5, Xbox Series X/S – and PC.
Why? From what I gathered reading their reasoning, it sounds like the old hardware just can’t handle it. The PS4 struggled with the original Cyberpunk launch, remember all those issues? They fixed a lot, yeah, but this new update and the expansion add even more demanding stuff. They basically said they needed the power of the newer machines to make it work right.
- Engine Overhaul? Too much for PS4.
- New Gameplay Systems? Needs newer tech.
- Phantom Liberty Expansion? Built for the new gen.
So yeah, it kinda makes sense, even if it’s a bit disappointing. They want the game to run well, and maybe pushing the PS4 any further just wasn’t going to cut it for this massive update.
So, that’s what I dug up. If you’re like me and still on the PS4, we won’t be getting that Cyberpunk 2.0 overhaul or Phantom Liberty. We’ll still have the game as it was patched up before, but none of the big new stuff. Looks like an upgrade might be needed if you really want that full next-gen Night City experience they’re pushing now. Just sharing what I found out through my search!
