Alright, so I’ve been trying to improve my golf game lately, and one thing I really wanted to focus on is my club head speed. I mean, who doesn’t want to hit the ball further, right?
Getting Started
First, I did what everyone does – I started paying more attention to how fast I was swinging during my rounds. I didn’t have any fancy equipment, just a general sense of “yup, that felt fast” or “whoa, that was slow”. It wasn’t very scientific, but it was a start.
Seeking Help from a Pro
Then, I got a few lessons with a local golf pro. He watched me swing a bunch of times and gave me some pointers on my technique. He emphasized the importance of a good turn and using my lower body more. He also did some drills with me, had me swinging with one arm, and even with my eyes closed!
Tracking My Progress
After a few weeks of practicing what the pro taught me, I felt like I was swinging faster, but I wasn’t sure. So, I went to a driving range that had one of those launch monitors. You know, the ones that tell you all sorts of stats about your shot. I hit a bucket of balls and paid attention to the club head speed number. That’s when I really started to see some improvement. I was consistently hitting higher numbers than before. Woo-hoo!
Keeping it Up
Now, I try to get to the range at least once a week and pay attention to that club head speed.
- Warm-up: I always start with some stretches and slower swings to get my body ready.
- Focus on Form: I really focus on that good turn and using my legs like the pro showed me.
- Hit the balls: Then I hit a bunch of balls, checking the speed and trying to keep it consistent.
- Record: I note down the average speed, that way I know if the speed is getting up or not.
It’s still a work in progress, but I’m definitely seeing some gains. And hey, even if I don’t add a ton of distance, it’s just fun to try and improve. Golf’s a tough game, but that’s what makes it so addictive, right? You gotta just keep swinging!
