Okay, so, the other day, we tried out this thing called “Shamble Golf”. I’d heard about it before, but never actually played it. Basically, it’s a mix of a scramble and regular golf, so you get a bit of both worlds.
How We Started
First off, we got our teams together. We had four people on each team, which is pretty standard for this format. Before we even hit the course, we figured out our handicaps. We decided to use 80% of the total handicap, ’cause, you know, it’s a team thing and it wouldn’t make sense to use the full handicap.
Teeing Off
We started each hole with everyone teeing off. After everyone had their go, we huddled up and picked the best drive out of the bunch. This is where the teamwork really comes in. You gotta think about who’s got the hot hand that day and whose drive is gonna give the team the best advantage.
Playing Our Own Balls
Once we picked the best drive, that’s where things got a little different. Instead of everyone playing from the same spot like in a regular scramble, we each played our own ball from where that best drive landed. So, from that point on, it was like regular golf. We each took our shots, trying to get the lowest score possible.
Keeping Score
After we all finished the hole, we tallied up our scores. For the team score, we used each best balls of the team. I gotta say, this format really makes you think about your shots. You’re not just playing for yourself, but you’re also contributing to the team’s overall score.
Final Thoughts
All in all, playing shamble golf was a blast. It’s a great way to mix things up and add a bit of a team element to the game. Plus, it’s a good way to work on your individual game while still having that team support. If you haven’t tried it yet, I’d definitely recommend giving it a go. It’s a fun challenge and a great way to spend a day on the course with friends.
- Played a round of shamble golf with friends.
- Used 80% of total handicap for team scoring.
- Everyone teed off, then selected the best drive.
- Played individual balls from the best drive’s location.
- Enjoyed the mix of teamwork and individual play.
It was a really good time, and I’m definitely looking forward to playing it again soon. It’s a cool format that I think more people should try out.
