Alright, let me tell you about how I ended up with this 1964 Mickey Mantle card. It wasn’t exactly planned, more like stumbling into it.

So, I was cleaning out the attic a few weekends back. You know how it is, boxes piled up over years, full of stuff you forgot you even had. Mostly junk, old papers, clothes that don’t fit anymore. I was just about ready to call it a day.
Then I found this smaller, kinda beat-up shoebox tucked way in the back corner, under an old blanket. Almost missed it. Curiosity got the better of me, so I pulled it out and dusted it off.
Finding the Old Stash
Inside, it wasn’t shoes. It was filled with old baseball cards! Mostly commons from the 60s and early 70s, stuff I must have collected as a kid or maybe inherited from my older brother, I don’t quite recall. Lots of names I recognized, some I didn’t.
I started sorting through them, just casually flipping through stacks. Didn’t expect much, honestly. Most were pretty worn, rubber band marks on some, soft corners everywhere. Typical kid stuff.
- Pulled out a few stacks.
- Recognized some players right away.
- Condition wasn’t great on most.
And then, boom. There it was. Mixed in with a bunch of lesser-known players. The 1964 Mickey Mantle.

Looking at the Mantle Card
I just stopped and stared for a second. Pulled it out carefully. It wasn’t mint, not by a long shot. The centering is a bit off, and the corners definitely show some wear. You can tell it was handled back in the day. But still, it was the Mantle from that year.
Holding it felt kinda cool. It’s not just a picture; it’s like a little piece of history, you know? Thinking about when this card was new, who might have pulled it from a wax pack back in ’64. Crazy.
I didn’t rush off to get it graded or anything. Just put it in a soft sleeve and then a top loader I had lying around from years ago when I briefly thought about getting back into collecting. For now, it’s just sitting on my desk.
It’s just neat to have found it. A reminder of digging through old stuff and the unexpected things you can turn up. Makes you wonder what else might be hiding in forgotten boxes.
