Okay, so I was watching the Masters the other day, and this question popped into my head: “How many pars are there gonna be in the whole tournament in 2024?” I mean, it’s a simple question, but it got me thinking, and I figured, why not try to figure it out?

My Little Experiment
First, I needed some basic info. I knew that the Masters is played at Augusta National, and it’s a par 72 course. This means that, ideally, a player should be able to complete each round in 72 strokes, a certain number of which are designated as “par” for each hole.
Next, I thought about the number of players. Usually, the Masters has a field of around 90-100 players. But not everyone makes the cut, right? The cut happens after the first two rounds, and only the top 50 players (including ties) and anyone within 10 strokes of the leader move on to the weekend rounds.
Crunching the Numbers (Sort Of)
So, here’s how I went about it. I decided to make some rough estimations, my way:
- Rounds 1 & 2: Assume about 90 players each playing 72 holes. That’s 90 players 72 holes 2 rounds = 12,960 holes played.
- Rounds 3 & 4: Let’s say about 60 players make the cut, cause, it can be a tough tournament!. That’s another 60 players 72 holes 2 rounds = 8,640 holes played.
- Total Holes Played: Add ’em up: 12,960 + 8,640= 21,600 holes played in the entire tournament.
And that is it!
All par 72,So there are 21600 pars !

It was a fun little exercise, and it made me appreciate the consistency and skill of these golfers even more. Anyway, that’s my little deep dive into the world of Masters pars – hope you found it at least a little bit interesting!
