Alright, so I figured I’d share my little journey getting to Gold Nova in CS2 Premier. Wasn’t trying to become a pro or anything, just wanted to climb out of the lower ranks, you know? Felt like a decent goal to shoot for.

Started off, played my placement matches. Landed somewhere in Silver, which wasn’t exactly a surprise. Man, those early games were something else. Felt like pure chaos most of the time. Everyone kinda just running around, taking fights, not much strategy going on. My aim wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t winning me every fight either.
Figuring Things Out
After getting stuck for a bit, bouncing up and down in Silver, I realized I actually needed to try a bit more consistently. Couldn’t just rely on luck or having a good aim day. So, I decided to focus on a few basic things.
- Aim Practice: This felt like the most obvious one. Started jumping into aim training maps before I played ranked. Didn’t spend hours, maybe just 15-20 minutes warming up, getting the feel for my mouse.
- Map Knowledge (Basic): Instead of trying to learn everything, I focused on one or two maps I liked playing, mostly Mirage and Overpass. Watched a few videos, not tutorials exactly, but just gameplay to see common spots people hold or push.
- Utility: This was a big one. I literally knew zero useful smokes or flashes before. Decided to learn just a couple of essential ones for T side on Mirage. Like, the smoke for stairs and the one for jungle/connector from T spawn. Super basic, but it actually helped sometimes.
The Actual Grind
So then came the playing part. Lots of games. Some days were good, felt like I was hitting shots, teammates were communicating (even basic calls help!), and we’d get a few wins in a row. Other days… well, total opposite. Losing streaks, bad games, people tilting. It happens, right?
I mostly solo queued, which is always a gamble. Sometimes I’d get matched with cool people who used their mics and played together. Added a couple of them when we vibed well. Playing with even one other person you can communicate with makes a world of difference compared to five silent randoms. We weren’t running complex strats, just basic stuff like “two B” or “let’s wait for smokes”.
Consistency was key, I think. Even when I didn’t feel like it, I tried to do my quick aim warm-up. Tried to throw those couple of smokes I learned, even if they weren’t perfect. Just building habits.

Making it to Gold
It wasn’t like a sudden jump. More like a slow crawl upwards. Won a few, lost one, won a couple more. I wasn’t even religiously tracking the ELO number, just playing. Then, after one pretty intense game on Vertigo that we managed to win, I saw it. The rank updated. Gold Nova I.
Felt pretty good, honestly. Like the small bits of practice actually paid off. It wasn’t some massive achievement in the grand scheme of things, but it was my goal, and I hit it. Took a bit of time, a bit of effort, and dealing with the usual matchmaking randomness.
So yeah, that was my path to CS2 Gold. Nothing revolutionary, just sticking to some basics and playing the game. Now I guess I can just play and try to enjoy it without worrying too much about the rank icon. We’ll see how long that lasts!
