Okay, so I decided to try drawing Homer Simpson today. Just felt like it, you know? Been watching some old episodes, got the urge.

First thing, I needed something to draw on and with. Didn’t make a big deal out of it. Just grabbed a standard pencil, the kind you find anywhere, and a plain sheet of printer paper from the stack. Nothing fancy. Didn’t even bother with an eraser at first, thought I’d just go for it.
So, I started sketching. The head shape, right? It’s kinda like a cylinder but not really. Tried to get that down first. Then tackled his eyes. Those two big circles, pretty straightforward, but getting them positioned right so he doesn’t look completely cross-eyed took a couple of tries. Okay, maybe I did grab an eraser after all.
Next up was the muzzle area, that sort of snout thing he has. Added the nose. Then the mouth – I went for that classic open-mouthed ‘D’oh!’ look. That part was surprisingly tricky to get the expression right. Spent a bit of time fiddling with the curve of the mouth.
Getting the details down
After the main face stuff, I added his ears. Simple ‘C’ shapes, basically. Then the iconic hair – just two strands on top and those ‘M’ shaped bits on the side. That was the easy part, thankfully. Sketched in his collar quickly too.

I thought about drawing the rest of his body, or maybe a donut, but decided to keep it simple for this first try. Just the head and neck area. Didn’t add any color either, just kept it as a pencil sketch.
Looking at it now, well, it’s definitely Homer. Maybe a bit rough around the edges. The proportions might be slightly off, he looks a bit… wonky? But you can tell who it is, so I guess mission accomplished for a quick practice session.
It was fun, anyway. Just zoning out and drawing something simple. Good way to kill half an hour. Might even try coloring it later if I find some crayons or markers lying around.
