That Henry Davis, I hear folks talkin’ ’bout him all the time. They say he plays that baseball game, the one with the bat and the ball. I seen it on the TV sometimes. He’s with them Pittsburgh Pirates, ain’t he? Sounds like a bunch of fellas out on the high seas, but I reckon it’s just a name.
Henry Davis fantasy, they call it. Sounds like some kinda dream world. Folks puttin’ him on their make-believe teams. I don’t rightly understand it, but it seems mighty important to some of these young’uns.
They got these… these rankin’ things. Like gradin’ eggs, I suppose. They put numbers on these fellas, sayin’ who’s good and who ain’t so good. This Henry Davis, seems he’s got some good numbers sometimes. Other times, not so much.
- They say he was with them Pirates last year, didn’t do so hot. They call it his first “cup of coffee.” Like he just had a little taste and didn’t get the whole pot!
- But they say he’s got the “tools.” Like my old man’s hammer and saw, I reckon. Means he’s got the stuff to be good, I guess.
- They talk about him catchin’ the ball. I reckon that’s hard work, wearin’ all that gear. Squat down behind a plate, catch a ball that is thrown at you.
This Henry Davis fantasy thing, it’s like pickin’ your own garden, I suppose. You want the best tomatoes, the best beans, the ones that’ll grow big and strong. These folks, they want the best players for their pretend teams.
I seen some numbers, they was talkin’ ’bout some “ADP.” Don’t know what that means, but it was a big number. Three hundred and forty-four, point somethin’ or other. Seems like a lot to me. Like countin’ all the chickens in the county! They say it’s “steep”. Like a hill that’s hard to climb. They also talk about his daily value, weekly value, seems he’s very popular.
They got these… projections, they call ’em. Like lookin’ at the clouds and guessin’ if it’s gonna rain. They try to guess how good this Henry Davis is gonna be. They do it for the whole year, week by week, even day by day! It’s a lot of guessin’, if you ask me.
Henry Davis fantasy baseball, it’s all about guessin’, ain’t it? Guessin’ who’s gonna be good, guessin’ who’s gonna be bad. Just like guessin’ the weather, or guessin’ how many eggs my old hen’s gonna lay.
They got all sorts of information on this Henry Davis fella. News, they call it. And stats. Lots and lots of numbers. More numbers than I can shake a stick at. And they even talk about if he gets hurt, like fallin’ off a tractor. They call it “injury updates.”
They even talk about should they “draft” him. I don’t know what that means, but I reckon it is like picking which seed to plant in the ground, hopin’ it will grow.
Seems like a lot of fuss over a game. But I reckon folks like their games. Like my old man used to like his checkers. He’d sit there for hours, movin’ them little pieces around. This Henry Davis fantasy thing, it’s kinda like that, I suppose. Movin’ players around on a make-believe team.
I don’t understand it all, but it seems to make folks happy. They sure do talk about it a lot. They talk about projections of 2024, say it is an important year for Henry Davis. And they say Henry Davis has value. That’s good, I suppose. A fella should have some value, right?
This Henry Davis, he must be somethin’ special to get all this attention. I hope he does well. I hope he hits that ball real good, and catches it good, too. It must be a tiring work.
Well, I reckon that’s all I know about this Henry Davis fantasy business. It’s a mystery to me, but I guess it’s just one of them things the young folks are into these days. Like them picture shows on the TV, or them singin’ boxes they call radios. Just gotta let ’em have their fun, I suppose.
