I gotta tell you guys about this little research project I just did. It’s about golf, specifically about who’s got the most majors. Yeah, I know, sounds a bit dry, but trust me, it got pretty interesting.
So, I started where anyone would—just a simple search. I wanted to find out who has the most major championships in golf. The results? Well, they were kind of what I expected, but still cool to see laid out.
First off, Jack Nicklaus, this guy is a legend. Turns out, he’s got a whopping 18 major championships. Can you believe that? 18! That’s more than anyone else in the history of men’s golf. I mean, I knew he was good, but that’s just insane.
Then there’s Tiger Woods. Now, this guy, we all know him, right? He’s second on the list with 15 majors. His last big win was at the 2019 Masters. I remember watching that, it was epic! Seeing him still at the top of his game was something else.
But here’s where it got even more interesting for me. I dug a bit deeper and found out that only five golfers have ever won all four majors. It’s like the grand slam of golf. These guys are:
- Gene Sarazen, “The Squire,” the first to do it between 1922 and 1935.
- Ben Hogan did it from 1946 to 1953.
- Gary Player, from 1959 to 1978.
- And then Jack Nicklaus again, this time spanning from 1962 to 1986.
- Last but not least, Tiger Woods, who completed his set from 1997 to 2019.
Tiger Woods, beyond his 15 majors, also holds the record for the most wins overall, with 82. People say he’s the greatest of all time, and honestly, looking at these numbers, it’s hard to argue.
I also stumbled upon this tidbit about how tough it is to win even two majors in a single year. Only 16 golfers have ever managed to do that, and one of them always included the British Open. This year, after the first three majors, only three players were still in the running, including Scottie Scheffler.
This whole thing started as a simple question, but it turned into a real deep dive into golf history. It’s amazing to see the legacy these players have built. It really makes you appreciate the sport and the legends who’ve played it.
