Okay, so today I wanna share something that happened to me recently, related to the “golf apparel brand” crossword clue in the New York Times puzzle. It wasn’t really my thing, but hey, it turned into a bit of an adventure.
It all started a couple of days ago. I was chilling at home, maybe it was the 27th of July, and my wife was doing her usual crossword thing. She’s really into it, you know? She calls out to me, “Hey, do you know any golf apparel brands?” I’m like, “Golf? Not really my sport,” but I decided to give it a go anyway.
First, I just tried to brainstorm. I racked my brain, but honestly, I don’t know the first thing about golf. No names came to mind. So, I turned to good old Google. I searched for “golf apparel brand NYT crossword” and started scrolling through the results.
I saw a bunch of websites offering crossword solutions. There were hints about the clue appearing on July 27th and 28th. I clicked on a few of these pages, and most of them pointed to one answer: ETONIC. I saw it mentioned over and over again. I was thinking there are a lot of these websites. They even mentioned that the answer has 40 possible answers in their database. So many options to choose from. I tried to check them out.
- Some sites had a ton of other crossword clues and answers too. It was a bit overwhelming.
- Others were more focused and just gave the answer straight up.
I read somewhere that this “ETONIC” answer was specifically for the July 27th puzzle. Some websites even had solutions for the entire puzzle, not just this one clue. I didn’t really need all that, but it was interesting to see.
After spending maybe 15-20 minutes on this, I finally shouted the answer back to my wife, “Try ETONIC!” She typed it in, and… it fit! She was happy, and I felt weirdly accomplished, even though it wasn’t really my doing.
My Takeaway
It was a fun little detour from my day. I learned that there’s a whole world of crossword solvers out there, and people take this stuff pretty seriously. Also, apparently, ETONIC is a golf apparel brand. Who knew? Maybe I should try to find one and try it on to see if it is good. Maybe next time I’ll be more prepared if my wife asks me another crossword question. Or, I’ll just stick to my usual hobbies and let her handle the puzzles.
