Okay, so I wanted to get a handle on the University of Memphis football team’s setup for this season. You know, see who’s playing where, who the starters are, and who’s backing them up. It is helpful for the fantasy league I’m in, and, honestly, I’m just a big college football fan.
My first move was to get online and start searching. I tried a bunch of different phrases like “Memphis football roster,” “Tigers depth chart,” and, of course, “University of Memphis football depth chart.”
hunting around
It took some digging! I found some stuff on the official team website, some articles from sports news places, and even some fan forums. There was not a good single source.
I started by opening a bunch of tabs. I mean, a LOT of tabs. One for the official roster, a couple for news articles that mentioned the team, and a few for those fan forums (which, let me tell you, can be a wild ride).
Then, I grabbed a pen and paper. I’m a bit old-school, I know. I like to organize my thoughts and make notes, then use it for the fantasy draft.
I began comparing the information across all these sources. The official roster gives you the names, numbers, and positions, which is a good start. Then I used the news articles to get a sense of who the coaches were favoring, who was performing well in practice, and any injury updates. The fan forums… well, those were mostly for entertainment, but sometimes you can find a nugget of useful info in there, too.

Putting It All Together
My aim was to build a simple list, position by position, with a likely starter and a couple of backups. Something like this:
- Quarterback: Player A, Player B, Player C
- Running Back: Player D, Player E, Player F
- …and so on.
It’s not perfect, of course. Depth charts change all the time, especially in college football. Injuries happen, players exceed expectations (or don’t), and coaches make adjustments. So I will constantly change my fantasy picks.
But it gives me a solid starting point. Now I can follow the team’s progress throughout the season and make updates as needed. And, more importantly, it helps me feel more connected to the game. Go Tigers!
