Well, well, well, I reckon you’re sittin’ there wonderin’ who to start on your fantasy football team this week, huh? Should ya pick Alexander Mattison or Dameon Pierce? Now, I ain’t no expert, but I can sure help ya figure this out with a little ol’ common sense and a heap of numbers. So, let me tell ya, it ain’t always easy pickin’ between these two fellas. Both of ’em been doin’ their best out there, but which one’s gonna give you the most points this week? Let’s take a look, shall we?
Alexander Mattison – The Workhorse
Now, Mattison, he’s been around for a little while, and he’s the main fella in the backfield for the Minnesota Vikings. He’s been carryin’ that load for them, even when things ain’t been easy. Last week, he got 19 carries and managed 62 yards, which ain’t too shabby, if you ask me. On top of that, he got 6 receptions for 21 yards and even managed to score himself a touchdown. That’s good enough to get you some points, for sure!
But the big thing with Mattison is his role in the offense. They trust him to run the ball a lot, and if the Vikings keep givin’ him the ball like they have been, then you can expect him to get some decent yardage. If you’re lookin’ for someone who’s gonna get touches, Mattison’s your man.
Dameon Pierce – The Young Gun
Now, Dameon Pierce, he’s a bit of a newer face in the game, playin’ for the Houston Texans. He’s been a bit up and down, though. Last week, he had 26 carries but only managed to rack up 69 yards. That ain’t terrible, but it ain’t exactly blowin’ the roof off either. On top of that, he only had 4 catches for 14 yards. Ain’t no big gainers there, but a few points are still a few points!
What’s interesting about Pierce is that, even though he ain’t puttin’ up huge numbers every week, he’s gettin’ a lotta touches. Now, that can be real good if you think the Texans are gonna run the ball a lot. But you gotta be careful, because sometimes the Texans’ offense ain’t as reliable as you’d hope, and that could leave ol’ Dameon sittin’ there with not much to show for his work.
Comparing the Two
When you look at the two of ’em side by side, they both got their strengths. Mattison’s got more catches, which is good for PPR leagues, and he’s been more consistent with his yardage. But on the other hand, Pierce’s been gettin’ more carries, which could mean more opportunities, especially if the Texans are playin’ from behind and need to run the ball a lot.
- Mattison: 19 carries, 62 yards, 6 catches, 21 yards, 1 touchdown
- Pierce: 26 carries, 69 yards, 4 catches, 14 yards
So, it comes down to what you’re lookin’ for. If you need a steady performer who might catch a few passes and maybe score a touchdown, Mattison could be your guy. But if you want a back who’s gonna carry the ball more and might break one loose, even though it’s a bit of a gamble, then maybe you go with Pierce.
What to Consider
Before you make your decision, you might wanna think about a few other things. Check the injury reports. Ain’t no sense in startin’ someone who’s banged up, right? If one of ’em’s hurt, you might wanna just go with the healthy one. And if you’re playin’ in a PPR league, I’d lean toward Mattison since he catches more passes. If you’re in a standard league, Pierce’s extra carries might give him the edge.
One more thing to consider: you gotta think about the matchups too. Some teams are better at stoppin’ the run than others. If one of these backs is up against a weak run defense, that could make all the difference. But you ain’t always gonna know for sure how that’ll play out, so it’s best to go with what you know.
Who Should You Start?
Now, to wrap it up and give ya my honest opinion, if I had to choose, I’d probably go with Mattison this week. He’s got the more consistent touches and the chance to catch a few passes. The Vikings are dependin’ on him, and that’s somethin’ you can count on. But don’t get me wrong, if you’re feelin’ lucky and think Pierce might have a big game, go ahead and roll the dice. It’s all about what feels right to you!
So, whichever one you choose, I hope they run wild and get ya plenty of points. Best of luck with your fantasy team, and may your picks always be the right ones!
