Okay, so today I wanna talk about something kinda random I was messing around with. The title is “is sue bird related to larry bird”, yeah, it sounds dumb, I know, but hear me out.

It all started when I was, you know, just browsing sports news. I saw something about Sue Bird retiring, and then right below it, an article about Larry Bird’s highlights. My brain just kinda short-circuited. Bird… Bird… are these legends related?
First thing I did, obviously, was Google it. Just typed in “Sue Bird Larry Bird related.” The results were all pretty much saying the same thing: Nope. No relation. Bummer, right? But I’m not one to just take the internet’s word for it.
So, I started digging deeper. I checked their Wikipedia pages. Larry Bird’s from French Lick, Indiana. Sue Bird’s from Syosset, New York. Already, geographically, it’s not looking promising.
Then I went into family history stuff. Larry Bird’s parents were Joe and Georgia Bird. Sue Bird’s parents were Herschel and Nancy Bird. No overlaps there either. I even tried looking for some obscure family tree websites. Nada.
Okay, so all signs pointed to “no.” But I still had this nagging feeling. Maybe there’s some distant connection, like a great-great-grandparent or something. That’s when I decided to get really silly. I started looking at census records. I figured if they had some super-common ancestor, maybe I could find them living in the same town way back when.

Let me tell you, that was a rabbit hole. Hours later, staring at blurry images of old documents… nothing. Absolutely nothing to suggest any link between the two families.
Finally, I had to admit defeat. Sue Bird and Larry Bird aren’t related. It was just a coincidence of names and basketball greatness.
But you know what? I learned a lot about online research, and I had a good time doing it. Plus, it gave me an excuse to watch some classic Larry Bird highlights on YouTube. So, all in all, not a completely wasted afternoon.
Moral of the story: Don’t believe everything you think, even if it seems obvious. And sometimes, the internet is right. But it’s always fun to check!
