Okay, so the other day, I got curious about something I heard on the radio, the Heisman Trophy winners from Oklahoma. I mean, I knew there were a few, but I wanted to know exactly who they were and when they won. So, I dived into the internet to get some answers.
First, I just googled “Heisman Trophy winners Oklahoma” and started clicking around. I found a bunch of articles and lists, some better than others. The official college football sites had the best info, of course. I noticed one name that popped up everywhere, Kyler Murray. This guy was the seventh winner from Oklahoma, and he won in 2018. I thought, “Wow, seven is a lot!”
Digging Deeper into the History
After getting that initial hit, I wanted to go a bit deeper. I looked up each of the seven winners to see when they won and what their stories were. I found that Billy Vessels was the first Sooner to win the Heisman, way back in the ’50s. That’s some serious history!
Then, I stumbled upon a story about Sam Bradford, another Heisman winner from Oklahoma in 2008. It seems like there was someone named Kenny Mossman who kind of predicted he would win, which I thought was pretty cool. It got me thinking about how much buzz there must have been around Bradford at the time.
Putting It All Together
So, I decided to make my own list, just to keep track of all this. I jotted down each winner’s name and the year they won. It’s not rocket science, but it was fun to see it all laid out.
- Billy Vessels – way back when
- Sam Bradford – 2008
- Kyler Murray – 2018
Seven winners in total, pretty impressive for one school. It was a fun little research project, and now I feel like I know a lot more about Oklahoma’s Heisman history.
