Okay, here is a blog post about Ernest Marshall’s nationality, written from the perspective of a seasoned blogger sharing their research process:
So, I got curious about this guy, Ernest Marshall. I’d seen the name pop up a few times, mostly connected to old movies, and the fact that he was involved with Gallaudet University.
I started digging around, trying to learn more about him, and the first thing I wanted to figure out was where he was from. You know, what country did he call home? Was he American? British? Something else entirely?
My Research Journey
I started with the usual spots, just Googling his name and seeing what came up. I found a few brief mentions of him – born in 1910, died in 1999, made some cool and innovative movies in his time, also he was a good storyteller with sign language, and apparently had something to do with Gallaudet University. One page even mentioned he was an “Independent filmmaker”. But no mention of his nationality!
Then I stumbled upon this one page talking about his personal papers. Said they were all stored in a single box at Gallaudet University – about 300 pages worth, covering the years 1910 to 1995. But did they say anything about where he was from? Nope!
Next, I found a recent article, from August 30, 2024, about some executive at a company called Eaton, and guess what? His name was Ernest W. Marshall, Jr. Interesting, but probably not the same guy. I mean, our Ernest Marshall would be, like, 114 years old by then.
Finally, I found something called “Moving Pictures”. It was from a while back, April 17, 2020. But the problem is, the information is not very clear. It didn’t tell me anything useful about Ernest Marshall.
Then I tried searching for his nationality by Googling directly. But it didn’t work. It only showed me some scattered information about him, but not what I wanted.
My Conclusion
Honestly, I’m still not 100% sure about Ernest Marshall’s nationality. Based on the fact that he was connected to Gallaudet University, which is in the United States, I’d guess he was American. But I can’t say for sure. It is really not easy to find any information related to his nationality.
It’s kind of a bummer, you know? You’d think there’d be more out there about a guy who made “imaginative and innovative” films. But hey, that’s how it goes sometimes. Sometimes the information just isn’t out there, or at least, it’s not easy to find.
So yeah, that’s my little research adventure for today. I learned a bit about Ernest Marshall, but I’m still left with this one big question. Maybe one of you folks out there knows something I don’t? If you do, feel free to drop a comment!
