Well, bless your heart, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Dr. Ben Birnbaum in Boston and ol’ Jack Nicklaus. Heard tell they got mixed up together ’bout Jack’s hip. You know, that Jack, he’s a golfer, swings them clubs like he’s whippin’ eggs. But hips, they ain’t meant for all that twistin’ and turnin’, no sir. So, somethin’ went wrong, I reckon.
Now, this Dr. Birnbaum, they say he’s some fancy bone doctor in Boston. Big city, lots of smart folks there, or so they say. Anyways, Jack, he needed his hip fixed, couldn’t swing them clubs right, I guess. So, he went to see Dr. Ben, all the way up in Boston.
He fixed Jack up real good, they say.
Took ’bout an hour, or so I heard. Ain’t that somethin’? Just an hour to fix a fella’s hip. Dr. Ben, he knew what he was doin’, I reckon. Said Jack’s gettin’ better, right on track, like a train on its rails. That’s good news, ain’t it? Jack, he’s gotta get back to swattin’ them golf balls.
- He’s a record holder, you know.
- Beat some fella named Willie Anderson, or somethin’.
Jack, he’s got a son, Jackie. They thought Jackie would be just like his daddy, swingin’ them clubs and winnin’ all the time. But Jackie, he’s different. Tall and skinny, like his mama, Barbara. Not so much like his daddy, after all. Funny how things turn out, ain’t it?
Anyways, back to Dr. Ben. He checked Jack’s hip, made sure it was all good. Jack, he left that hospital in Boston, feelin’ better, I hope. Took a while for the pain to go away, but it did, eventually. Dr. Ben, he knew what he was doin’, I tell ya. A good bone doctor, that one.
Now, I don’t know much ’bout golf or fancy city doctors. But I know a good thing when I hear it. And fixin’ Jack’s hip, that was a good thing. Let’s him keep playin’ his game, keep swingin’ them clubs. And that Dr. Ben in Boston, he’s the one who made it happen. Bless his heart.
