So, my son’s got a girlfriend now. Yeah, happened a while back but she’s been around more lately.

First Impressions and Stuff
Met her properly last weekend. They came over for Sunday dinner. My wife, she handled most of the prep, you know how it is. I mostly just observed, tried to make small talk. She seems… okay. Young, obviously. Very quiet at first. Took her a while to warm up, I guess.
What I noticed:
- She eats really fast. Like, inhaled her food. Not judging, just noticed.
- Spends a lot of time looking at her phone. But then again, who doesn’t these days? My son does it too.
- She laughed at one of my old jokes. Either she’s got a good sense of humor or she’s just being polite. Probably polite.
The Whole Interaction Thing
Tried asking her about her studies, her family. Got pretty short answers. “It’s fine.” “They’re good.” Stuff like that. Felt a bit like pulling teeth, you know? Maybe she was nervous. Hard to tell.
My son, he was doing most of the talking for her, jumping in. Maybe trying to help her out. Or maybe he just likes talking. He gets that from his mother’s side, probably.
We watched some TV after dinner. She picked a show. Not my kind of thing, honestly. All fast cuts and weird music. But hey, gotta roll with it, right? Tried to stay awake. Nodded off once or twice, pretty sure they noticed. A bit embarrassing, but dinner makes me sleepy.

End of the Day Thoughts
So yeah, that was the visit. It was… alright. No major disasters. She seems to make my son happy, and that’s the main thing, I suppose. It’s just different having someone new in the mix. Takes some getting used to. The house feels different when she’s here. Quieter in some ways, more awkward in others.
Bottom line: She’s here. Part of the picture now, looks like. Just gotta see how things go. Another adjustment. Life’s full of ’em, isn’t it?
