So, I was messing around the other day, looking back at some old basketball stuff online. You know how you fall down those rabbit holes. Anyway, I ended up watching some highlights from the Dallas Mavericks, especially that championship year.

And man, seeing Dirk Nowitzki again, it struck me just how tall he looked out there. I mean, obviously, NBA players are tall, but he always seemed like one of the giants, even among giants. But I couldn’t, for the life of me, remember his exact height off the top of my head.
Trying to Recall
My brain started churning. Was he 6’11”? Was he a full 7 feet? Sometimes those official listings are a bit different from what you might guess just by watching.
- I pictured him next to guys like Tim Duncan or KG.
- He definitely had the height to shoot over nearly anyone.
- But was he really a seven-footer?
It became one of those little things that just sticks in your mind, you know? Couldn’t shake it. Felt like I should know this, being a basketball fan for years.
Looking It Up
So, I did what we all do. Grabbed my phone while waiting for the kettle to boil. Typed in a quick search, nothing fancy, just “dirk nowitzki height”.
Took about two seconds. And there it was, plain as day. The number confirmed what I kind of suspected but wasn’t totally sure about.

He’s listed at 7 feet 0 inches. That’s 2.13 meters if you use that system. A legit seven-footer.
Makes sense now, thinking about how he played and especially that signature fadeaway shot. Hard to block when the guy releasing it is seven feet tall and leaning back. Anyway, mystery solved. Just a quick check to satisfy my curiosity.
