Hey, folks! It’s your boy back at it again. I’ve been messing around with Overwatch 2 lately, trying to figure out this whole crossplay thing. You know, can you actually play with your buddies who are on different platforms? Specifically, I wanted to see if I could join up with my Xbox friends while I’m on Steam. So, let me tell you how that went.
First off, I fired up Overwatch 2 on my PC through Steam. Now, I already knew that Overwatch 2 is all about that crossplay action, which is awesome. But there are some catches. From what I’d seen, PC players could team up with console players in most game modes, but not in Competitive. They keep PC and console players separate in that mode for balance, which makes sense.
So, I started digging around. Turns out, if you’re playing Overwatch 2 on Steam, you’re basically in the same pool as the folks on *. That’s because both are considered PC players. That’s cool and all, but what about my Xbox buddies?
Here’s where it gets interesting. I found out that I could actually add friends from other platforms like Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo. And guess what? You can totally play with them in any non-competitive mode! I was stoked.
Here’s what I did step-by-step:
- I added my Xbox friend through their * ID.
- Once they were on my friends list, I invited them to my group.
- We hopped into a Quick Play match, and bam! We were playing together, no problem.
We played a few rounds, and it was smooth sailing. No lag, no disconnects, just good old Overwatch fun. It’s pretty awesome that Blizzard made it so easy to play with friends, no matter what system they’re on.
So, to answer the big question: Can Steam players play with Xbox players on Overwatch 2? Absolutely! Just not in Competitive mode. For everything else, it’s game on. It’s a huge improvement from the old Overwatch days, and I’m all for it.
Keep in mind, this crossplay thing works across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, including Steam and *. Just make sure everyone has a * account and you’re good to go. I made one * account for connecting with my friends. Have fun out there, and happy gaming!
